Window’s Button Learns New Tricks – Windows 7 Shortcuts
I remember how much I love using the keyboard for everything. I’m the kind that is faster hitting a CTRL+S to save, CTRL+C to copy, and CTRL+V to paste than trying to go with a mouse to do the same task. If you are looking to be a Windows power user, or just trying to find some extra time saving tips, read on and find out what powers the new Windows 7 Window’s button can do for you!
| [Windows Button] + up arrow | Maximizes the current window. |
| [Windows Button] + down arrow | Restore or minimize current window. |
| [Windows Button] + right arrow | Snap current window to right half of current screen. (This is like having a pseudo dual screen. and is great for file copying or comparing documents). |
| [Windows Button] + left arrow | Snap current window to left half of current screen. |
| [Windows Button] + Shift + right arrow | Moves the current windows to the right screen when running dual monitors. |
| [Windows Button] + Shift + left arrow | Moves the current windows to the left screen when running dual monitors. |
| [Windows Button] + Home | Minimizes or restores all but the current window. |
| [Windows Button] + T | Focus on taskbar so that arrow keys and Enter can be used to select an item. Repeating this shortcut will again cycle through items. Using Windows Button + Shift + T reverse cycles. |
| [Windows Button] + Tab | Windows 3D flip – cycles open applications in 3D |
| [Windows Button] + spacebar (hold keys) | Peeks at the desktop (Temporarily shows desktop). |
| [Windows Button] + D | Minimizes everything to show the desktop. If already in this state the reverse will occur showing everything prior to the first time this command was used. (Great for hiding Windows from parents or the boss). |
| [Windows Button] + M | Minimizes current window. |
| [Windows Button] + G | Brings Gadgets to focus and on top of whatever window is currently open. |
| [Windows Button] + P | Shows presentation and display options. (This is very similar to the Function + F<something> keys that laptops have to extend video out through a secondary monitor or projector. With this command things get a lot easier). |
| [Windows Button] + U | Opens the “Ease of Access Center” aka the old Accessibility Options |
| [Windows Button] + X | Opens the Mobility Center for quick access to features like WiFi. |
| [Windows Button] + [a number key 1-5] | Starts program from the taskbar that corresponds to that number key. |
| [Windows Button] + + | Zoom in with screen magnification. (No more squinting – this feature rocks!) |
| [Windows Button] + - | Zoom out (The reverse of the above command.) |
| [Windows Button] + L | Locks the screen (Goes back to login screen without closing everything that was opened). |
| [Windows Button] + R | Run |
| [Windows Button] + E | Open Windows Explorer (Computer) |
| [Windows Button] + F | Find |
| [Windows Button] + PAUSE | Open “System Properties” |
