Call Me Crazy, But I’d Rather Have a Good Call…

First, let me clarify one point. I am not a Verizon customer. My current network is AT&T and I’m really frustrated wtih them. To the point that I’m considering buying my way out of my contract and moving to Verizon. My wife and my phone’s have a little under a year left on the contract, making it near $200 that I would be willing to spend to separate my relationship with them.
Why would a person part with a large amount of money over a cell phone? After all, it’s just a phone that makes calls, right? Pause, back up a few characters. See that word “calls”. Call me crazy, but I’d like my phone to be able to make and receive calls whenever I want, wherever I want. AT&T won’t allow me to do this. Sure, they’ve got flashy phones, such as that thing called the iPhone, but their network, is um, lacking.
With all of my background out of the way, let me know get back to the main point of this post. Some people are seemingly upset, or just disappointed, that Verizon isn’t getting all of the latest and greatest phones (if you don’t count the HTC Touch Pro 2 as something worth having?). As reported on CNN, this is apparently a problem for some users, so much to the point that they would switch away from what is largely regarded as the best network in the United States. Where’s the logic in this, you ask? I ask as well, much the same way I ask the person who buys the shiny car with the poor gas mileage “why?”.

Nah, not crazy. Making phone calls was after all the reason cell phones were invented. As someone who owned one when the only “portable” ones were Motorola Bagphones (yes, still have one, but no service for it), I’ve never really jumped on the “Mobile Connectivity” bandwagon. It is nice to get email on the go, but not necessary. I still have a RAZR for personal use.
Verizon has some BlackBerry models in addition to the HTC’s, that would seem to be desirable as well.
