Today, we are going to take a look at the first of two movie finding applications, Fandango.  We’ll take a look at Flixster next time.  Most of you are probably familiar with Fandango, which allows you to hunt for movies, and then purchase tickets directly from the website, which you can pick up at the theater.

The great thing about the Palm Pre app is that almost everything you found on the website is available here.   When you open the app, you will see a listing of the recent releases, top box office draws, and other movies in theaters in your area (you can set up your zip code or find your location by GPS).  You can also toggle over to “Coming Soon” in order to view the upcoming releases.

To get more information, just tap any movie listing.  You will receive a complete synopsis of the movie, along with the movie poster and fan rating.  If you want more information, you an even check out pictures and the trailer.  Scroll down for a list of theaters in your area which are showing the selected movie.  Like the website, Fandango on the Palm Pre allows you to search for a specific date and purchase tickets directly, and pick them up at the theater.  In order to do so, you will have to either create a Fandango account or connect to your existing account (just make sure to enter your credit card info.)

If you prefer to search by theaters, rather than movies, you can do that as well.  Just tap “Theaters” to display a listing of theaters in your area.  Obviously, select any theater for a complete listing of movies and showtimes.  What is really cool, though, is that you can also call the theater from here by tapping the phone number, or find the theater in Google Maps, which is fantastic, especially if you are travelling and unfamiliar with the area.  You can even add the movie to your calendar, so you will not forget and leave your date waiting at the theater.

I am a huge fan of Fandango, and I use it pretty much every time we go to the movies (which is few and far between with three kids).  As such, I really appreciated finding Fandango on my Palm Pre, meaning, once again, I do not need to be tethered to my computer in order to find and purchase movie tickets.  The fact that you can map or call the theater, and even directly add a purchased movie to your calendar is just icing on the cake.
