After Begging and Begging, My Wife Finally Gave In

I admit it, I’m not to proud to beg!  I’ve been begging for this for a long time.  If you guessed that she’s going to finally start carrying a smartphone, you’re right.  Not just any smartphone, one of my two Palm Centro’s.  A shiny artic white GSM unlocked Centro, complete with black leather Sena magnet flipper case and 4 GB microSD card.

Unsatisfied with her current feature phone, she finally succumbed to my constant advertisements of how a smartphone would help her to be more organized, help her to carry more pictures, to carry video video clips, to well, just be cool!  I’ve got a black Centro and a white Centro.  Of course, she opted for the white one because it’s “prettier”.

Now I get to spend the weekend planning on what I’m going to install on the phone (I’ve got a huge collection of Palm software I’ve registered over the years).  What to install to help her get the most out of the experience is key.  After all, I don’t want her “telling me so”, that the phone just wasn’t worth her time.  My initial thoughts are:

  • TakePhone – what would a Palm OS phone be without it?
  • The Resco Suite – Explorer, Backup Pro, Viewer, etc.
  • PocketTunes Deluxe
  • TCPMP
  • 4Cast – best to let her have access to the weather!
  • Plus probably other countless titles that I won’t introduce to her right away.

I really want this to work out.  I want my wife to fall in love with the Centro.  She’ll give it a good home.  She did so for me.

So how about you?  Does your spouse carry a smartphone or are you on your own, like I’ve been for so many years?  Let us know in the comments section!

My wife carries the Palm Treo 750 and loves it. She uses it all the time. She takes pictures of the inside of her pocket. Makes phone calls, and generally underutilizes the whole thing. :) I’ll be curious to hear what you think

My wife carries a Razr. And an iPod Touch which she uses for… Flight Control and the family shopping list.

Baby steps :)

Brian I can’t help but think that this will be a lot more fun for you than your wife. :)

CONVERT THE UNCONVERTED!!!

Good luck with that. My girl still carries some useless piece of nothing and just can’t understand why I would carry my device.

I had fun with Palm OS it will be a good start for her.

I don’t know if a RAZR qualifies as a “useless piece of nothing” or not. That’s my primary phone, a RAZR V3xx. Good sounding phone with exceptionally range, ability to check email from multiple accounts, web surfing, 2GB MP3 player, photos….and a battery that doesn’t die in less than a work day.

There’s still a lot to be said for “dumb” phones.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Today was a good introduction to it, with comments from her ranging in the very positive area. I think I’m going to document her progress, so watch for another item or two in the next couple of days.

I use the Sprint Touch Pro, and my friends don’t understand my obsession with it. My partner’s AT&T contract is up for renewal in the next couple months, and I’m trying to convince him to buy the Fuze but as he says \I just want a phone I can use to call and text\.
We’ll see what happens……….

I bought my fiance a new blackberry curve, it came out before the storm. It cost over$100 and it was brand new. Even though we had the warranty our wireless phone provider told us that they could only send back a refurbished one, that was there policy. Next phone arrived with a new problem and he called for another phone. The same thing, they were only able to send out a refurbished phone. Wouldn’t you believe it, there were even more problems with that phone? He had spent a good portion of his day off, on the phone with them trying to fix the problem. When it didn’t work they offered him another refurbished phone. Well, they did finally offer to give him his money back which he accepted, but told them to put his phone service on hold until he can find a new phone.and those wonderful people decided to still charge him for every month that he wasn’t using the phone. I on the other hand use a simple no whistles or bells Samsung phone. I don’t need much in a phone unlike my fiance who needs a smart phone for work. My Samsung I decided to buy refurbished and it has been wonderful. I believe the more technology in a phone the more chances there are for things to go wrong with it. On the other hand if a phone is made properly you shouldn’t have any problems with it.
