Bing!… Oh?
Microsoft launched a search engine, called Bing, so I Googled it, and there were a lot of results. [I did have safe search enabled]. There is also a Mobile Bing site, [direct your mobile browser to the previous link] that you can utilise from the Mobile phone. I’m not sure at what point I missed the fact that MSN included a search engine! Considering the push MS has put on it’s Live Suite, why do they need to promote a search engine, that is secondary to it’s major services? I may have missed something in the whole “Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo” episodes of recent times, well they still seem to resurface now. Is Bing, the branded search engine that Microsoft thinks can hold it’s own or compete with Yahoo and Google?
I have actually been quite surprised, by the fact that Microsoft felt like they had to launch a branded search engine, to compete with others that have become dictionary entries. If you want to find something, you Google it! Will you Bing it?
From what I can see at the moment, Desktop or Mobile, Bing is a search engine, it offers no more than other search engines. The contradiction here though, is what if you are a Live Suite user, dedicated to MSN? Bing seems to be out on a limb, and not essentially connected to Live Services.
Update: Well what a difference a day makes, [Australia] Bing is now showing up as the default search engine within the locally served MSN Live site.

It finally came online in Australia today, they’ve snuck it in to the search form, not a lot of excitement about it. A Bingle is a small accident!
