Review: Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Car Speakerphone (HCB-120)

IMG_0468

I’ve been playing around with Sony Ericsson’s Bluetooth HCB-120 Speakerphone for a few weeks and although it is a gorgeous little piece of kit, its call quality could really use some work. This is unfortunate, since I’ve tested at least two Sony Ericsson headsets that have performed adequately for calling.

The HCB-120 is certainly still worth a look, though, if even if it’s just for the design.

I think the image pretty much says it all. This kind of deal doesn’t come along every day so I highly recommend if you’ve considered an invisibleSHIELD – NOW IS THE TIME!

I’ve recommended invisibleSHIELD to tons of people, I swear by them … and believe you me I’ll be heading there and picking up some much needed protection for sure.

My Phone Beta for Windows Mobile is officially open!

microsoftmyphone If you missed out on one of the elusive beta codes when Microsoft’s My Phone sync service when it was first released, lament no more. It’s finally become available for everyone, and with the latest update to the mobile client, it’s really starting to look like a viable option for syncing your phone, sans PC.

Whilst the web portal still seems problematic, I always find it takes an interminable amount of time to log on to the site, where I can manage my synced info, I seem to be syncing successfully from the phone.

The mobile app is now fully functional, syncing storage cards as well as phone PIM info. One thing to note here is the settings for storage card sync are pre defined in the app, it looks for media of any kind to sync. Therefore, any thing on the storage card that is perceived as media by the app is synced.

I install a lot of applications on the storage card on my Tilt, and lots of those apps have libraries of icons and sounds. So My Phone wants to sync them all, all 1700 plus, and then there are application notification sounds, sheesh. The initial sync when selecting storage card in sync options, timed out. I had to do it incrementally, but the need to delineate between media you want to sync and media you don’t want to sync, will hopefully eventuate.

Anyway, give it a try, and let me know what you think?

PS: I’ve had the web portal log on process running whilst I’m writing this, 15 minutes, still not logged on. I know it’s still a beta, but Microsoft should be able to host a server for this service that works!

Review: Mobile Edge ScanFast(TM) “Element” Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Briefcase

lifestyle_630_176

A few weeks ago, I came across an interesting article in my local newspaper regarding a “checkpoint friendly” laptop bag from a company called Mobile Edge. “Oooooh”, thought my good self, “this could be good to review”.  After finding out that their headquarters are just down the street from me, I was promptly dispatched to meet with them and see if there was anything they would like us to review.

They have hundreds of laptop bags available in different sizes, shapes and colors, but a couple of things impressed me very much. First of all, they were the first company to specifically design laptop bags that would appeal to women instead of us girls having to carry around a bag that’s obviously designed for and looks like it’s designed for a man!

The other great thing about them is that they do a line of bags called The Caring Case Collection, whereby 10% of all proceeds go towards the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation.

I opted to review a delightful looking pink ScanFast(TM) “Element” Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Briefcase. Hit the jump for the review!

Moblin 2.0 Netbook interface

I’m not usually one for these mobile interfaces on computers. I say give me a vanilla OS and let me just use my programs on my super small screen and struggle with the small text. But despite my silent protests, developers keep making all sorts of user interfaces to maximize the 10” screens we have on our netbooks.

I don’t really like any of them, but Moblin 2.0 actually looks interesting enough to use. It’s a Linux-based OS with a very cute interface and a built-in browser, media system, and an M-Zone (widget?) to keep you up-to-date on what you and your friends are up to. Plus, the intro video features a British accent! Weren’t we just talking about Coldplay?!

Moblin 2.0 website here, and the beta of 2.0 looks to be out for the trying.
