Go News Touch, is not a sixties flashback!

Doug posted about “GoNewsTouch” the other day, and I thought it was going to be a mobile TV app, turns out it’s a touch optimised  RSS reader.

StationBreak: Saturday Summer Edition!

Well, the last few StationBreaks I’ve done have been quite maudlin and sentimental. Oh, nothing wrong with that at all, but this week is just for giggles!

It’s the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend here in the States, which also marks the unofficial start of summer. There’s nothing better than sitting out on my patio with a glass of wine in hand, listening to tunes and smelling all those barbecues cooking up some fantastic grub. The neighbors all suddenly become best friends, and there are bike rides to the beach, and trips to the mountains being planned. All good camraderie, and summer out here in SoCal is a time for being carefree and enjoying life.

Way way back in the early 1980′s, there was a TV show in the UK called Spitting Image, it was a satirical look at current events and all the main characters were…..well, latex puppets. And they had a few hit songs! This one, dear readers, was a number one hit for 3 weeks, and still gives me giggles when I listen to it and it typifies the traditional English “summer holiday”, and the one hit wonders that typically abound around summer time (The Macarena, for instance!).

I bring you The Chicken Song:

Listen To This: The Big Finish

IMG_2090

Wow, we have spent a lot of time here, going through the highs and lows of these six media players.  For those of you just joining us, go back and reread the whole Listen To This Series.  we have compared every aspect of six media players, including the hardware, accessories, controls, menus, syncing, sound, video, photos, battery, memory, wireless connections, and pretty much anything else which could be compared.  Now that all of that comparison is done, the only question remaining is what came out on top.  well, hit the jump to see where I landed on this one.

Twikini, Twitter Client for WinMo, Updated!

marksshot009 I posted a Quick Look of Twikini, a twitter client for Windows Mobile back in April, and it garnered some interesting comments. The fact is though, Twitter is here to stay and people want ways to access the service on any platform. Stats don’t lie, and these are not the most recent stats that I’ve seen, but the growth has been phenomenal.

1,382% year-over-year growth in February 2009.

Total unique visitors grew from 475,000 in February 2008 to seven million last month.

Twitter is the fastest growing member community site for the month of February.

Twitter is not for everyone, and the aversion to it with some, is as powerful as the addiction to it is for others. Let’s face it though, it’s an instant messaging service, and you can control, who and what you read, your Twitter network can be as large or intimate as you like, as with any other instant messenger.

One of the  things though, that people object to is signal versus noise. Signal is said to useful communication from a likewise interested group of people that you follow, and noise is something like the spam you get on your email or blog, from people trying to market, all sorts of things, from Viagra to watches, and the occasional Nigerian prince.

There is a proliferation of marketers, of all persuasions, flocking to Twitter, to see what they can exploit from users, and it creates a model for people to use, actually a lot of the marketing is focused on teaching people how to leverage Twitter to make money.  So, if your a software developer, with a Windows Mobile client, like Trinket Software, it might make sense that you would use some of the same methods to make your application go “viral”, that are used on the service that your application services!

Trinket have come up with a maniacally impressive way to promote the release of this latest version of Twikini, which is now a paid software application.

Version 1.1 of Twikini will cost you Money Now! for now though, your earlier free version will still suffice.
