Watch a Samsung i8910 HD disappear!
Saw this over on Wired and I just keep going “huh?” whenever I see it. It’s remarkable for two reasons:
- Wow, check out that video quality!
- Holy crap, the phone disappears mid-vid!
That sure is a nice place for the reviewer. There’s just one thing, though…
This all seems to be promo for Samsung by Samsung. That fact doesn’t take the fun away for me, but I was so impressed by the video that I googled the user who put it up: technivator. It turns out there is no www.technivator.com, but a blogspot site did come up as a hit, and here’s what the site says:
OK, so you have probably guessed by now that there is no ‘Technivator’ (although we wish there was) and that the film you probably just watched wasn’t a real ‘unboxing’ video. Here at Samsung we were wondering how to celebrate the launch of the Samsung Omnia (i900), so we had a chat with some impishly creative friends of ours, and this is what happened…
So I guess it’s a viral ad – but it certainly takes reviewer vid quality up a notch, doesn’t it? I’m inspired!

No camera tricks, it’s not a mirror, just 2 guys looking at each other through a clear piece of glass in a mirror frame made into a wall. The girls are twins, the aparments are reverse-identical(almost).
1. The lens position in the reflection in the vase is on the left, in the mirror it’s on the right. They reverse the lettring on the Samsung so that it appears to be a mirror image, but they had to hold it correctly or the flash (I think, whatever is above the camera lens) would be upside down.
Compare this picture: http://dailymobile.se/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/samsung-omnia-hd-pictures-02.jpg
2. Their hands don’t line up when they touch the “mirror”.
3. When he pans down to the floor near the end the foot positioning doesn’t match.
4. The tube of whatever doesn’t line up with it’s “reflection”.
5. The girls’ hair positioning doesn’t match (the one in the “mirror”‘s hair is in front of her shoulder, the “real” one it’s behind her shoulder.

It’s a pretty slick vid.
it was awesome seeing YouTube users throwing video responses out there to analyze this. I don’t quite agree with the people getting cocky and saying “oh, hire me next time you wanna get this trick done RIGHT”. I think the video is supposed to be solvable and all in good fun.
I wonder if people actually remember which phone they were looking at, though
