StationBreak: What a difference 10 years makes.

“And there’s another country I heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her
Most great to the them that know”

A line I love from the lyrics to a staunchly British song called “I Vow To Thee My Country” but appropriate for this StationBreak.

When I was young and growing up, I’d watch TV and see the glamour of America. She seemed so big and huge and wonderful, where anything could happen if you believed it could happen. It was like some kind of fairytale place, and over the course of my childhood and my teenage years and subsequently into young adulthood I heard America’s siren song.

And due to chance, circumstances and a lucky break, on April 30, 1999 husbandthefirst and I landed on American soil to start a new, wonderful life together in this land that called to us both.

Of course, it didn’t quite end up being a fairy tale and I’ve had to work my fingers to the bone to get where I am in life now, but to celebrate a decade of being here, I give you the song that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

The Star Spangled Banner

Because I for one am proud to call America “home”. I’ll always have my English roots and traditions, but here is where I belong and I sometimes don’t realize how lucky I am.
