Slingplayer for Your iPhone?? Maybe Not So Much

Want to play streaming video on your iPhone?  Yeah, Apple’s got an app for that, right?  Well, maybe not this time.  It seems that the folks at Slingplayer submitted their app to the Apple store, only to be rebuffed.  And if the stories I am hearing are true, the decision may not have been made by Apple at all.  Well, let’s back up a minute.

Most of you are aware of Slingplayer.  It lets you stream television shows from your  TV directly to any mobile device, so you can watch them anywhere.  It has been around on Windows Mobile for a while now.  Well, Slingplayer came up with an obvious idea of putting their popular program in the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Apparently, the app conformed to all of the rigid App Store guidelines, but was rejected anyway.  Why?  Apparently, AT&T made the call, out of fear that the app would eat up too much bandwidth.  It seems that Apple rejected this app solely to satisfy the request of AT&T.

Call me crazy, but I am pretty sure we have not heard that last of this one.  We’ll have to wait and see whether this unholy marriage between the iPhone and Slingplayer can be made to work, or whether the AT&T mistress will tear this one apart for good.

Fizz Software Releases Soccer Manager for iPhone and iPod Touch

Today must be Hail Britain Day for me here at JAMM, because I feel like I am bringing on a British invasion.  Here is another one from across the pond, Soccer Manager.  From what I can tell, this is the European version of Fantasy Football.  I am not much of a fan of soccer, but this looks pretty slick for those of you who are.  Hit the jump for all the details.

SeV Super Secret 2-Day Sale

UPDATE: I just received word from Scott Jordan himself.  This sale has now been extended until Monday, April 20, at 1:00 PM (EST).  So, hurry on over and grab your goodies before it is too late.

This one pretty much speaks for itself.  One of my favorite clothing manufacturers is turning 8, and SeV wants to celebrate.  Unlike most birthday parties, though, they are going to give you the gifts.  More specifically, 40% off selected items.  But hurry, because the sale ends soon (uhm…April 17, to be exact).  Oh, and shhhhh….don’t tell anyone, it is a secret.

So, quietly, his this link for all the details and super secret promo codes.

Deals: save 15% On any Purchase At Proporta

noname

I just got an email this morning from our friends over at Proporta.  And it seems they have a bit of a sense of humor (or is that humour).  Apparently, they must have known (despite the fact that they are located across the pond in England) that today is tax day in the United States, and many of us may be feeling the pinch of the Tax Man just a little more than usual this year.

Whether you have slipped free of the Tax Man’s grasp, or just want to give yourself a little extra something to round out that Easter Basket, our friend’s from Proporta are here to help.  From now until the end of April, just use the code FIFTEEN at checkout from the Proporta website, and you will receive 15% off your entire entire purchase.  Whether it is an alu-leather case you covet, or maybe one of their fine chargers, it’s all up to you.

And while you are over there, don’t forget to check out Proporta’s new Stock Clearance Store, with some items discounted as much as 75%.

Flight Control Update Coming Soon…

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to review a fantastic little iPhone game called Flight Control.  This $.99 gem quickly became one of my favorite games.  And apparently, I was not the only one, because it quickly shot up the charts to become the number one paid app in the U.S. iTunes App Store.  I play this game almost daily, and yet there are a few noticeable omissions.  Enter the new release, which is set to come out on April 24.  The new update will include two significant upgrades, both of which were among the most requested features among the user community:

  • Save Game will allow you to close the game and pick up right where you left off when you open it back up again.  No longer will you get shut out of that road to the latest high score just because of a phone call.
  • Global High Scores will allow you to compare high scores with users from around the world.  Now you can see whether those 94 planes you just landed were really as impressive you thought by comparing your scores with those of other users around the world, in your location, or from your selected skill level.

Both of these are fantastic upgrades, but the are not the feature I looking forward to the most.  It will not be ready in time for this release, but Firemint is laying the groundwork for new airports and even new airplanes, making the game even more exciting and challenging.

Hit the jump for the full press release, and watch for the upgrade in the iTunes App Store soon.
