Quick Look: Artwizz Mirrorfilm for the iPod Touch 2G

If we were to have a really deep philosophical discussion about what our devices mean to us, we might come to the conclusion that the devices we carry are a reflection of ourselves. However, thanks to Artwizz we don’t even need to have that conversation. With a Mirrorfilm on your iPod you can even enjoy other reflections (including, but not limited to colourful elephants).

Hit the jump for a completely symmetrical review made up completely of palindromes. (Kidding!)

How do I put it on?

This part couldn’t really be much easier. You take the Mirrorfilm, place it over your device, and then peel the protective layer back as you stick the Mirrorfilm onto the screen. If you have any bubbles, you can use the included squeegee to push them out the sides.

How does it fit?

Pretty much perfectly, thank you for asking. The Mirrorfilm isn’t the flimsy kind of screen protector, so it isn’t going to scrunch up at the sides either. It covers about 99% of the screen and doesn’t jut out over the sides.

How do you like it, Thomas?

The reflective surface is guaranteed to impress any one under the age of 100 and it’s also just plain useful to have on a device that you’ll be toting around with you. I can’t tell you the number of times before the Mirrorfilm that I’ve just wanted to gaze longingly into my own eyes – and now I can for hours on end, even outside of a bathroom.

Fancy reflections aside, the Mirrorfilm is also a good screen protector. In its three weeks of use it has sustained only one minor scratch, and I only noticed it because I was looking for one to report in this review. The viewing angle is a little more limited than a naked iPhone screen and it can suffer from a bit of rainbowing at times, but I’ve been duly impressed by how legible the screen is. Even in direct sunlight, the iPod screen clear as day with all the colours as vivid as ever. That’s a big plus, since the iTouch features a gorgeous screen that you don’t want to dull in the least. The texture of the iPod’s screen is also improved: it adds just enough grip to keep typing comfortable, but not so much that you can’t slide to unlock.

Conclusion

The Mirrorfilm adds protection and reflection to your iPod Touch, which is a refreshing change from the fully transparent protectors we’ve become accustomed to.  So if you’ve been reflecting on a different way to customize your iPod screen, I’d definitely recommend taking a look in the Mirror[film!].
