Just Another Mobile Monday Now Equals jamm.mobi

Whether you have been with us from the start or are just joining us, you have probably noticed that www.justanothermobilemonday.com can be a mouthful (and a fistful) of typing.  Especially if you are on a mobile device, with a tiny thumb keyboard.  Heck, it is my site and I am constantly mistyping it.  During a recent conversation, we determined that we could do something about this by setting up a redirect that would be easier to type, but bring you to the same JAMM content which (we hope) you all love.  The problem was that jamm.com, jamm.net, jamm.org, and so on were all taken.

Well, last week, Brandon emailed to say that www.jamm.mobi was available.  And so our redirect was born.  We snatched up the site, and it just went live this morning.  So, for those of you who would like to cut about 20 characters out of your daily browsing of the Interwebs, just head to www.jamm.mobi.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled posts, already in progress.

Mighty clever, gents. That should save some extraneous thumb typing. :) Odd the .mobi is specified for mobile devices given it has an additional character. I’ve had a .mobi domain since last year, which is really just an experimental site for listing my mobile devices. When I first set it up it was suggested that I test the site to see that it complied with the spirit of the .mobi domain framework using some free online checker tools.

I think JAMM fits in with the spirit of .mobi domains quite well. If you visit us from almost any smartphone out there you get a mobile site. Granted we don’t support “feature phones” but that isn’t our target market for the site anyway… I mean lets be honest not many of us around here start drooling when Motorola releases the next version of the Razr. However a pool typically starts to form anytime HTC says anything about a new phone.

Anyway… my fingers were starting to hurt. I’ve been typing this address for years.

@Brandon: Right, I wasn’t suggesting that jamm.mobi somehow “violated” any particular framework convention, just relating my experience when the .mobi extensions became publicly available.

@Breley – first thing I did when I saw the post was go test it with a couple tools and yeah we fail miserably against the standards for what a .mobi “should” be. We scored a “fair” on the tests, but I saw where you were going with what you said. Personally, the whole concept is insanely dumb anyway…

Either way, we got a short address now. Maybe we should try for the .tv version too. That would be even shorter!

Maybe we should just shorten it to j.tv. :)

j.tv redirects to an OB/GYN in Brooklyn. You’re hours behind my friend :)

Nice. Did you make any bids for the taken domains?
