Now the app store can be used for advertising

OK, there’s a great post up at gear diary about how the app store can now be used for advertising.  It seems that there are many apps out there now for folks wanting to advertise.  Now, where I don’t think that’s a terrible idea (being an ad sales and marketing guru myself, but I digress…), I do see how a gazillion apps used for different ad venues can end up being advertising overload.  Wayne Schulz, over at gear diary points out all of the pros and cons here.  I agree that the app store really needs to be selective of the apps that they offer and should certainly make sure that they add more value than (in the long run) just directing you to a website.

I honestly just think they need a filter called “stuff that we didn’t find a reason to reject, but that you probably don’t want”. Is that so much to ask?

How about just rejecting apps that serve no purpose aside from advertising. I mean, if you look at the app which spurred the original Gear Diary post, it was pretty much just a link to the business’ website and a contact form. That’s not even an app.
