Slingplayer for Your iPhone?? Maybe Not So Much

Want to play streaming video on your iPhone?  Yeah, Apple’s got an app for that, right?  Well, maybe not this time.  It seems that the folks at Slingplayer submitted their app to the Apple store, only to be rebuffed.  And if the stories I am hearing are true, the decision may not have been made by Apple at all.  Well, let’s back up a minute.

Most of you are aware of Slingplayer.  It lets you stream television shows from your  TV directly to any mobile device, so you can watch them anywhere.  It has been around on Windows Mobile for a while now.  Well, Slingplayer came up with an obvious idea of putting their popular program in the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Apparently, the app conformed to all of the rigid App Store guidelines, but was rejected anyway.  Why?  Apparently, AT&T made the call, out of fear that the app would eat up too much bandwidth.  It seems that Apple rejected this app solely to satisfy the request of AT&T.

Call me crazy, but I am pretty sure we have not heard that last of this one.  We’ll have to wait and see whether this unholy marriage between the iPhone and Slingplayer can be made to work, or whether the AT&T mistress will tear this one apart for good.
