Nobody really knows what’s going on with the Palm Pre…
Well, rumor (see, I got the spelling right this time) had it that Palm were going to release the Palm Pre by April 30th. This upcoming Palm unit has been the talk of the mobile device world in the last couple of months and it’s been a case of “who’s getting it? When is it coming out?”. Here’s the latest from mypre.
Sorry to kill your hopes. It turns out that Palm and Sprint have no plans to launch the Pre on April 30th. It seems our Twitter friend was spreading inaccurate rumors. First things first; Palm says the launch date is more of a window, with the only thing set in stone is that they will have the phone out by the end of Q2. More importantly, the 4/30 date didn’t sit with me because it’s a Tuesday. Sprint launches products on Sundays, not Tuesdays. Our Twitter culprit is a fake, thankfully.
So…….while rumor still abounds, it looks like we need to wait for the official press release from Palm and/or Sprint.

Yeah I can’t remember too many beta testers with accurate dates on any devices in the past. I’m not even buying into the photos of the two guys haphazardly on a parade route with two Palm Pre devices. That seems a little too convenient for me and in this day of twitter and forums we’d be seeing sites reporting (or photographing) this device.

The only thing that rings true to me is the May 16th date that Engadget uncovered in an internal Sprint timeline. But even that is a wait and see. My mind keeps flashing back to the Treo 800w, which I loved. It released over a year after its expected release date when almost no one was paying attention. And don’t forget the Foleo. Which never released. So, while I am cautiously optimistic for the Palm Pre…I willl believe it when I see it.
