Review: Waterfield Cases for the Amazon Kindle 2

IMG_4185

I ran out and bought the Kindle 2 from Amazon pretty much the first second it was available.  I am absolutely in love with this device, which I reviewed last week, along with a bunch of my friends from Gear Diary.  We did not necessarily agree on everything, but there was one point we on which we reached a quick consensus: Amazon made a critical mistake by not including a case or sleeve with this fantastic new device.  Luckily, before my Kindle 2 had even arrived, I found that one of my favorite case manufacturers, Waterfield, was already on the job.

Waterfield offers three cases for the Kindle 2.  We’ll take a look at the Travel Bag a bit later.  Today, I want to take a closer look at the Slip Case and the Sleeve case.

Will You Switch to Sprint for a Pre?

When the iPhone first arrived, AT&T saw quite the jump of subscribers since people couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new drool worthy device.  The same thing happened again when iPhone 3G arrived on the scene.  So, it got me wondering, will people be willing to jump aboard the Sprint train to be one of the first with the Palm Pre?  Sprint has been averaging losing over a million subscribers every quarter.  They really need to pull in new people.  Personally, I am going to wait.  First, the exclusive period for the Pre is 6 months.  If it debuts around July, I am hoping we see it at Verizon by January 1, 2010.  I have been happy with the Verizon network, and since the majority of my family and friends are on Verizon, I save a lot of minutes.  As much as I would absolutely LOVE to have a Pre, other than the device itself, there is no incentive.  Obviously, Sprint is hoping most people don’t think that’s the case.  Plus, Palm admitted that Pre is not going to be the only device with the new WebOS.  I knew that was coming.  Palm has fallen so far behind in the smartphone market, that they need to be available on all networks.  Back to my original question, are you willing to switch to Sprint for a new Palm Pre?  Leave your thoughts in the comments section. (Edit: Or vote in the poll)

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
WinMo get’s its own Flatulence Application!

image Tell me something, in real life, is someone passing wind funny? Why do applications like this proliferate for iPhone, and now it’s started for Windows Mobile. Puerile and useless applications have seemed to  be  confined to the Apple App store until this point. In a way I can understand people exploring SDK’s and seeing what they can do, as far as programming for a new device.  So when someone goes out of their way to emulate the sound, that signals the degradation of the ozone layer, or a complete disintegration of personal space, and of course the expected olfactory assault, you have to wonder, What’s the point?

OK, so I know lot’s of people use their mobile devices to play games, really though, your mobile is your window/portal to the world, and apps like this, are targeting a market that has the attention span of a twelve year year old.

Somehow, applications like this are an insult  to the serious mobile user, and probably should be ignored, but for some reason they take up a lot of bandwidth!

I propose a boycott of any digitally enhanced bodily function emulators, and of course any analogue versions as well.

I just don’t get it, it’s like the magic eightball, or a ougi board, "I  want to hear fart sounds @ random intervals"

There is absolutely no reason for applications like this to exist, unless I’ve missed a trend that indicates a burgeoning demand. Crapware like this actually diverts WinMo users from the power that they have in their hands!

Free For All: cleanRam from htcAddicts

For most of us ram cleaning utilities are tied up in larger applications, like Pocket Mechanic and MemMaid, and apps like those cost! With the limited RAM on older WinMo devices any way to maximise your RAM usage is welcome, well this little application, and I mean 66 Kb little, it’s a memory lifesaver, when you don’t know where the memory drain is on your device.
