Mastersoft Seeking Beta Testers

download One of our good friends in the Windows Mobile community is Dom Masters, owner of Mastersoft Mobile Solutions.  He has made some phenomenal mobile games, including one of the few good mobile versions of Kakuro.  For some time, Mastersoft has talked about bringing their offerings over to the iPhone, and that transition is finally starting to happen.  Although it is still in the very early Alpha stages, Mastersoft is hard at work bringing both Sudoku and Kakuro to the iPhone and iPod Touch.  So…what does this have to do with you?  Well, a game (or games) this big need to be thoroughly tested before anyone can be expected to shell out their hard earned money, and as Brandon hinted the other day, Mastersoft is actively seeking Beta testers.  If you interested, just send your iPhone or iPod Touch UDID to betas [at] mastersoftmobilesolutions.com (don’t forget to replace the “at” with “@”.

Review: Mobile Edge Netbook Briefcase

IMG_4245

I knew, as soon as my MSI Wind arrived, that I was going to have to completely rethink my commuting bag.  Until then, I had been carrying a giant backpack designed for my 15.4 inch laptop.  When I reviewed the Wind, I documented my move to a standard briefcase, which I used along with a padded case I received with the Wind.  This worked fine.  But to be honest, the case I got with the Wind was not particularly stylish.  It offered some protection, but not as much as I would have liked.  I needed a new bag with a padded compartment for my Wind.  Well, good luck finding that.  Very few laptop bags actually are designed to hold something as small as a 10 inch netbook.  Put this in a standard laptop bag and watch your poor netbook slide around in there, swimming through the padding, which might as well not be there at all.

Enter Mobile Edge, a company which sent us an email not long ago advertising the very thing I had been seeking…computer bags designed to hold my tiny netbook.  So, we dispatched Sue to meet with them and see if we could get our hands on a few bags to review.  And boy did she do a great job.  Before long, I was transferring all of my normal commuting necessities from my seven year old unpadded briefcase to a shiny, new Mobile Edge briefcase, designed specifically for my netbook.  Hit the jump to see how the bag fared on my daily commute.

Are You Cool Enough?

The advertising war between MS and Apple has provided much amusement and quite a few laughs over the years. With the advent of the "I’m a PC" campaign we saw MicroSoft seemingly take off the gloves and start to crack back at Apple’s "Mac / PC" comparison adds.

I just loved the feel of this ad, and the  joy at a great deal!

How ever cool a device is it only really satisfies if it matches the users needs, not social standing!

Hate your trackpad too? Use this retractable USB trackball!

I know, I know. The headline got you all excited and you want to see a picture of this so called “mobile trackball” right away. Alright, here you go:

74187-0

It’s got everything I like in a laptop accessory. It’s USB, it’s got a retractable cable, and it helps me get around the sheer stupidity of the trackpad (I haaate trackpads!). If you’d like to pick one up, you’ll have to somehow navigate the Japanese website that sells it for $20 and find a way to buy it. But it’ll be worth it to rid yourself of the evils of the pad.

Gear Diary & The Gadgeteer take on the Pantech Matrix Pro

geardiary_pantech_matrix_pro_12-500x434.jpg.jpeg

Honesty time. I don’t really read a lot of reviews. By that I mean I rarely sit down and READ a review from anyone. Most times it goes a little something like this:

  • Pretty pictures? Nope. Fail. Close Window
  • Pretty Pictures, 20 pages of text? Fail. Read Summary.
  • Pretty Pictures, decent length and summary? Read. Win
  • So that’s how I roll. Damn I hate that. That’s not how I roll. I don’t “Roll”. That’s how I approach reading reviews. I’m going to link to a review posted over at Gear Diary on the Pantech Matrix Pro because I read it top to bottom. What’s that mean to you? Well, its a darn good review that’s what it means. Its got pretty pictures, its not ridiculously long, its got real honest opinions, and its short enough that it gets you what you really want to know about the device in a small enough space that you stay interested. Definitely a win!

For those of you with a lot more time on your hands… check out the (stupid long) pair of videos I put together on the Matrix Pro, and keep your eyes peeled… I’ve got some pictures and opinions of my own coming up real soon. Until then, hit the link and leave Judie and Julie over at GD a comment and tell them what a fantastic job they did.
