PDA Evolution…or Not So Much

Have you wondered how much PDA’s have evolved over the last 40,000 years or so?  Well, I think this chart says it all.  And, as you can see, the changes are…well, surprisingly little.

Review: Proporta Universal Emergency Charger

markEmergencyChargerreview 007

What’s a typical day for you and your device of choice?

For me, 6.00 am start, power up the Tilt, and check email, it’s a reflex action these days, on a good day, as few as thirty something to wade through. On a bad day, well, it can get up really high depending on what the JAMM team have been rambling on about and getting off topic on while I’m asleep. Fifteen to Twenty minutes of device uptime, working out what I need to get back to and what can wait, then shower shave and shampoo to get out the front door and walk the dog, whilst checking Twitter, before I’m out the door again to get the train to work. train ride consists of answering urgent email, and trying to wade through the feeds in NewsBreak for anything that seems like urgent news, or at least of interest, for the site. 9.00 am, I’ve already run the phone for maybe an hour and a  half, needless to say, sometimes I go home with a dead device.

Any time I’m left out of contact like that, is unproductive and definitely an anxious time, [am I sounding like a web addict yet] any possible alleviation of that anxiety is welcome. So the aptly named Universal Emergency USB Charger from Proporta, is probably better than a tranquilliser for me. I’ve been trying it out for the last couple of weeks and I’m feeling a lot calmer, check out why

Review: Resco Contact Manager

pc_capture5b

For some time now, I have been lamenting the lack of any significant development for Windows Mobile. It seemed like many of my favorite developers were hard at work focusing on other platforms. Doing anything and everything except improving Windows Mobile. All of a sudden, in the last few months, that logjam seems to have been lifted. Spb and SBSH have both been releasing updates for many of their older Windows Mobile programs, and each has more major updates coming. I have also had conversations with several other developers about some very exciting plans for Windows Mobile coming soon.

But what about something that is here now? It is all well and good to say big things are coming. But someone has to have something out now. That someone is one of my favorite developers, Resco. Resco’s programs are typically among the first I install on any new Windows Mobile device. Now, they have released their latest offering: Resco Contact Manager. Will this one prove to be another worthy addition to Resco’s “must have” lineup of Windows Mobile apps? Let’s take a closer look.

Hotmail updates POP3 access for all; too late for me

Argh, why couldn’t they have come up with this stupid update six months ago?! I left my hotmail account behind after being insanely annoyed by the fact that I couldn’t access my e-mail outside of a desktop. It took me forever to forward all of my account mail to my new gmail account.

Despite my eight years of hotmail usage I wasn’t deemed worthy to do things like forward my e-mail to other accounts outside of the MSN domain (some were lucky enough — as long as they had owned accounts for “long enough”), and the Hotmail Plus accounts (pay for privilege) were all but impossible to sign up for.

Oh well, for those of you still on Hotmail, this should make you happy. I’m just going to go pout in the corner. Hmmph!
