Free For All: Most Wanted, The Most Important App Available for the iPhone and IPod Touch
I have spent a lot of time surfing the iTunes App Store on my iPod Touch lately. And I have come to two conclusions: First, there is an abundance of useless garbage available in the iTunes App Store. Second, an abundance of users flock to this useless garbage, ensuring that it is often positioned in the top 25 lists. This means that the actually useful applications are buried deep within the nether regions of the iTunes App Store, where many users will never see them.
Today, I am going to highlight the single most useful and important application available in the iTunes App Store today. In fact, I would venture to say that it is the most important application on any platform. It does not make any sound effects, it will not make your iPhone fart, vomit, or take a crap all over the couch. And it is the only application I have ever seen which I implore every iPhone and iPod Touch user to download…RIGHT NOW. So, what is this absolutely, positively must have application? It is called Most Wanted. Hit the jump and I will tell you everything you need to know.
Most Wanted is not just an application, it is an actual law enforcement tool. Within the confines of this free application, you will find three lists. First is the Top Ten Most Wanted criminals. Second is a list of the Most Wanted Terrorists. Third is a list of Missing Kids from across the country.
Now, this is not just some list that a hack programmer living in his mother’s basement put together. These are the actual lists put together by the Federal Bureau of Investigation here in the United States. This is the same stuff that you will see posted on the wall of every Post Office in the country.
When you click on any of the three lists, you will be taken to a list of pictures and names. This is your main entry point. Tap on any entry, such as Usama Bin Laden (I think we all know who this is) and you will be taken to a more detailed page containing an overview of the events which put this individual on the FBI’s list.
Now, here is where it gets interesting. This is not just some passive list you can view, but it is also an opportunity for you to actively assist law enforcement. From any entry, you can view the full FBI Wanted Posted for any individual on the list.
Or, if you have any information about the individual, you can jump straight to the tipster page on the FBI’s website and leave a tip which could lead to the arrest of some extremely dangerous individuals…or the return of a child to their families. This is a lot like putting America’s Most Wanted right their on your phone.
I have never come across an absolutely positively must have application before. I have found applications which I highly recommend, and even ones which I can honestly tell you I could not use my device without. But I have never found a more important on any device.
This one is free folks, so there is really no good excuse for not downloading it. It costs nothing, and having it on your device could potentially help law enforcement around the world capture some of the most dangerous criminals out there. Where is the downside, here? Forget the obnoxious sound apps and making your iPhone make thousands of random and useless noises, let’s make this the number one free app in the iTunes App Store.

Doug this is cool — how neat would it be if they integrated the GPS so that you'd see the pictures of people most likely to be within a 100 mile radius?

I'm sure it is the single most important app – for those who live in the US.

The fact is Mike, any of those people could be in your vicinity, this is relevant, !!

Wayne, one addition I would really like to see is a list of known sex offenders. Tie that into your GPS and you can see where the sex offenders live in your area.
