We Have A Scum Sucking Scraper

If you are reading this post on Just Another Mobile Monday, then stop reading now and skip ahead to the next post…
How do you know when your website has made it to the big time? well, one sign is that you make enough money on a regular basis for us all to quit our day jobs. And some of you astute readers may notice that I am writing this at 11:00 at night…after spending all day at my day job.
The other sign that a site is getting big is that you start to get ripped off. And here, I am talking about blog scraping. What is scraping? Well, here is how Wikipedia describes it:
Blog scraping is the process of scanning through a large number of blogs, usually daily, searching for and copying content. This process is conducted through automated software. The software and the individuals who run the software are sometimes referred to as blog scrapers.
Scraping is copying a blog that is not owned by the individual initiating the scraping process. If the material is copyrighted it is consideredcopyright infringement, unless there is a license relaxing the copyright. The scraped content is often used on spam blogs or splogs.
Lately, I have noticed at least one site in particular (which I will not name or link for obvious reasons) consistently reposting content from JAMM, in other words, scraping out content. So, I wanted to take a minute to address that site directly, from here on JAMM.
All of the content on Just Another Mobile Monday is copyrighted, and remains the exclusive property of JAMM and its staff. If you are reading this post anywhere other than Just Another Mobile Monday, then you are reading a post which was stolen from our site, and reposted without the express or implied consent of Just Another Mobile Monday, it editors, authors, or team members. This is a direct infringement upon our copyright, and a blatant violation of the copyright laws of the United States, where JAMM is published.
What really bothers me here is that I know how hard our team works. We give up time with our families, free time in front of the TV, and any other of myriad of activities in order to put this site together and bring you the consistently high quality which you have come to expect. So, it really irks me to see someone put in absolutely no effort in order to benefit from the hard work of this team.
If you are reading this post on any site, other than www.justanothermobilemonday.com, then we implore you to accept nothing but the original Hit the link to go back to JAMM and enjoy the best our team of dedicated writers has to offer about mobile technology.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled postings.

A M E N !!!!!!. Although you could look at it from the standpoint that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery: STOP! Don't blast me, I was just kidding. Credit goes to where credit is due. I remember when I was contributing here, that reposts were frowned (read: not allowed) upon. BUT, if you gave credit to the original author and site, you could refer to it.
Kudo's to JAMM. Budo's to the site that shall not be named.

I have the exact same thoughts. See these all the time. Have started to just ignore them because they don't seem to appear in any search engines and since they seem to disappear (and another one pops up in their place) I don't think they make money.
Take a look sometime at the number of sites scraping Engadget — it's unbelievable (even worse are the ones that aren't automated but steal the content manually).

It's worth standing up and saying no, if someone does it manually, we should be sending the copyright police to S.W.A.T. their donkeys!

I completely agree. I've just watched these sites come and go and come and go. None stick around longer than about 3 months because I'm convinced they're started by out of work webmasters (how old fashioned does that term sound) trying to game the search engines and advertising.
Of course, another reason many could be disappearing is that the advertising market isn't exactly flourishing.

I completely agree with you, Wayne. And I know you and I have talked about this in the past. There was just one site that was particularly annoying me lately.
But I really never understood this practice. Other than just stealing for the sake of stealing, there does not seem to be much fun and profit involved at all. Then again, I also never understood the practice of flooding my inbox with Viagra ads. I guess i just would not make a very good criminal .
