Conficker On the Horizon

worm

April 1 will not be laughing day for some. Infected with the Conficker worm, this deadly computer code will bring its victims much grief as it will turn infected users’ computers into zombie drones to do the dirty deeds of its currently unknown creator. Is is currently believed that 5-10 million computers are currently infected. Make sure your antivirus is active and up to date. Also make sure that you have all the latest Window’s updates. Perhaps tomorrow will be a day which would best be spent with the computer off or setting the clocks ahead a day and disabling internet time synchronization – of course, if you did this you may not be able to access certain websites due to the date being off. Hopefully the evil creator of this beast will be caught…there’s currently a $250,000 bounty. For more information check out CNN. Safe computing tomorrow and goodnight!

Free for All: TaskFacade (for Windows Mobile)

One of the real attractions of Windows Mobile has always been its ability to multi-task.  It can numerous programs at once.  Now, we will ignore the obvious issues in the underlying system, such as memory management and the much maligned “X” button which minimizes instead of closing.  The most obvious problem for me has always been Windows Mobile’s lack of an easy to access task manager.  I mean, really, what is the point of multi-tasking if you cannot quickly and easily switch from one task to another.

Quick look: Flight Control

IMG_0324

They say that being a flight controller is one of the most stressful jobs in the world.  Monitoring the altitude, direction, landing sequence, and other vital stats of all those airplanes, making sure they all land safely.  That can be quite the responsibility.  So, of course, someone thought it would be pretty cool to take the world’s most stressful job and turn it into a game.  What a concept.  I shelled out my 99 cents to grab this one after it hit number 1 in the iTunes App Store, and boy am I glad I did.  I am now hopelessly addicted to maneuvering these tiny planes onto their runways.  But don’t just take my word for it.  Read on for all the details.

Skype is out for the iPhone…

…and I’m not hearing very good things from Dan on WoiP. He’s reporting some pretty spotty call quality and says it pales in comparison to Truphone. I will admit that  Skype’s PC client drove me insane (losing contacts, reporting people as offline when they were quite obviously on) and so I’m not that surprised with the trouble. I’m not saying the app is bad, though, as it could simply be suffering from the enormous Skype crowd downloading the app and using the service all at the same time – and hey, every app was 1.0 at some time or another. In any case, if you’re up for some VOIPing, give the app a shot – it’s free :)

I intend to give it a whirl when it comes out on the Canuck App Store.

Are You Cool Enough? Part 2

(via Joy of Tech)

This pretty much sums up my side of the argument about the quality of the laptop she was buying from the prior post on the topic. Oh… and she’s an actress. Shocker. /sarcasm.
