Mophie Juice Pack Air – now with a power switch!

I reviewed the Mophie Juice Pack a while back and really loved it, but one of the problems that crept up on me after a while was the battery dying. All run out of juice after expending their charges, but the Mophie had a habit of making a lot of dying breaths in the form of charging, not charging, charging once more, and then dying. This meant that my iPhone would vibrate and beep like crazy as the Mophie ran out of battery and I’d have to take the iPhone out before it drove me crazy. A power switch solves that problem quite nicely, especially since drawing upon Mophie power when the iPhone is fully charged actually ends up using more energy than plain charging.

Another cool design element is the progression towards more of a case-type enclosure with the Air. It actually covers the whole top, bottom, and back of the iPhone 3G (no 2G love…sigh) so you can actually really rely on the Mophie Air for some decent scratch protection. You can look for the new charger on Mophie’s website for $79.95 soon!

Thanks to Gear Diary for the heads-up.

More WinMo 6.5 screenshots and details – oh my god, the scrollbar is different!

You see, if I was a jaded WM user then the header above would definitely be sarcastic. But I’m not jaded. Well, not that jaded. If the recently leaked WM 6.5 screenshots are real then I’m excited about seeing even things as insignificant as scrollbar changes. That means something graphical will have actually changed with a WinMo upgrade. Thank you!

I e-mailed the JAMM team about this news last night and one of our writers, Rita, responded with: “The X button looks very poorly photoshopped to me :s”

She’s right. I don’t know what the heck is wrong with the ‘x’ button or the softkeys, but I’m hoping that’s just some beta 3rd party software. But there are more changes than that, and Pocketnow made some observations based on the other screenshots. It looks like we’ll be seeing a better WMP interface and an improvement upon Pocket Outlook that should give it more cloud capabilities.

Not too shabby for a dot upgrade to WinMo. You can visit Pocketnow.com for all the details and more screenies.

Extra, extra, read all about it: Kindle 2 announced, costs $359

If you were looking forward to the latest and greatest in Amazon e-reading technology, then today is your day. Feast your eyes on the Kindle 2: thinner, curvier, batterier, and grey-scalier than ever. Engadget got a hands-on and even have a hands-on video.  The Kindle 2 will run you $359 and features 2GB of storage, 25% more battery (4 days of reading) , 16 greyscale options, as well as better hardware controls and a faster screen (for page turning!). There are also two new features in the form of “Read to me” and “Whispersync” (easily transfer content and bookmarks from Kindle to Kindle, more devices in future).

Check out more pics, details, and the hands-on video here.

Nokia And Samsung To Unleash App Stores During MWC

After the undeniable success of the Apple App Store, and other manufacturers and platforms jumping on the bandwagon like Blackberry, Palm, and Windows, we have recently had news of 2 other manufacturers releasing an Application Store.

The first one is Samsung with the Samsung Mobile Applications that will feature software for their Windows Mobile as well as Symbian S60 devices. It will be rolled out during Mobile World Congress next week, and although it will be limited to the UK at first, we hope that it’ll go worldwide soon after that. Developers who have joined the Samsung Mobile Innovator program will be able to publish their products in the store for free, and the store will be open to freeware as well as shareware applications. The store is already available online, so if you have a Windows Mobile or S60 Samsung device, you can already check it out.

Review: Fizz Brain Train

1

Before the launch of the DS I never would have considered giving brain training games a try. Brain Age changed all of that for me with its super cutesy exercises, superb statistics tracking, and very personal presentation. When you finish a round of exercises and are about to sign of for the day it’s always great to see Dr. Kawashima’s great, cheesy smile applauding your efforts.

A little while ago I was given the chance to try Fizz Brain Train for the iPhone. Granted,I don’t know Fizz software for anything but the Fizz Weather program on Windows Mobile, but I’ve noticed a lot of non-gaming companies starting to create their own mini game series. The idea of a Brain Age-like experience that I could take around without having to carry a DS intrigued me, so I decided to give Fizz Brain Train a shot. I still think it’s a rather strange title for a game (did you just call me a Fizz Brain?) but I just took it as friendly teasing :P
