Review: Pachinko for iPhone

3

I’ve never played with a real Pachinko machine. Real, mechanical arcade machines kinda passed me by. Either that or I was too busy playing House of the Dead 2 to notice anything else while I was in an arcade. Pachinko is like pinball without the bumpers and it’s apparently a pretty big deal in Japan. The name also really makes me think of Pokémon (Pikachu, in particular).

Pachinko, I choose you!

Review: OtterBox Defender and Impact for iPod Nano

This past Christmas my daughter asked for something special – namely a brand new 4th gen iPod Nano in blue. She’d been using a second gen Nano for a long time until the battery stopped working and was pretty happy with the SanDisk Sansa I was letting her use as a replacement. But the Sansa wasn’t hers and she really wanted something of her own. So, I went over the Apple store (and along with a 2nd gen iPod Touch for me) I picked up a shiny new 8GB Nano.

The problem then became how does someone give an 11 year old an iPod Nano with a glass screen and very scratchable surfaces, yet make sure its not garbage worthy in the first couple days? Well, I reached out to our friends at OtterBox because I knew they could make that happen. I wasn’t too worried about the cases, we’ve reviewed those quite a bit… the bigger issue was would an 11 year old girl with a shiny new iPod be willing to put one of these cases on and how long would it stay there?

StationBreak (Saturday Edition): My my, how can I resist you!

mamma_mia_1 So last Saturday, I was cleaning my apartment and listening to some music. I tend to get a bit carried away on cleaning day and dance and sing to break up the   tediousness of what I’m doing and last weekend was no exception to the rule.

Kitchen cleaned *check*, bathroom scrubbed *check*..time to start on the living room.  As I walked through with polish in one hand and a duster in the other, my gorgeous kitty Stealth looked at me with fear in his eyes. Oh yes, he knew what the next song was and he knew the consequences…..so there I was singing along at the top of my voice dancing around with the cat in my arms doing a silly kind of waltz with him. When the song ended, I heard a round of applause and a lot of giggling from the neighbors across the stream…..yup, I’d left the blinds and windows open and hadn’t realized and they were all on their balcony looking into my apartment! Stealth and I gave a bow and with tail between legs I continued cleaning in a slighly more demure manner :)

The music I was listening to? The soundtrack to Mamma Mia! I’ve been a huge Abba fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper and have seen the show numerous times. I’ve even been to a cast wrap party when my friend and I went three times in one week to see it!

If you haven’t seen the show, check it out, or at the very least buy the movie. Guaranteed you’ll laugh like a loon and you won’t be able to get the music out of your head!

NetFlix Mobile Manager

Ever thought it was a bit hard to browse through NetFlix’s website and add movies to your queue via Windows Mobile? Well, things just a got a whole lot easier as Spb in partnership with Microsoft and NetFlix bring you the NetFlix Mobile Manager! With the ability to not only modify your queues whether it be DVD or instant viewing, you can also search through movies to see their descriptions, covers, and ratings.

Here’s what makes it even cooler though – with Windows Mobile, you can stream live previews of movies. Not sure you want to watch the movie? Don’t waste your time guessing just by looking at the plot…preview it! And as always, with Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate Editions, you can also from your mobile device order the movie to stream and play off of your XBox 360 or any other Media Extender. What more can you ask for aside from maybe mobile popcorn delivery?
