Free For All: Google’s Windows Mobile App

It’s here, a Google app for Windows Mobile, Android and the iPhone’s poor cousin, so it seems. it’s new you have to agree to some huge contract that you’re not even going to read, and if you’re in Australia you don’t even exist at this point. Just say you’re in the states and avoid the confrontation!

What though do you actually get for your lack of bucks, a configurable desktop/today screen plug in.

Sorry I’m not hiding my disappointment very well, but this was actually lauded by quite a few sites, and yes Google have released a free app for Windows Mobile, and thanks for that, but it seems a bit little too late. On installing the app I was also quite surprised that it didn’t offer an option to install to where you choose, straight to main/device memory it went.

The App inserts itself where it wants and exhibits a rather strange behaviour when you try to use it, it sort of floats/has a life of it’s own, acts like an independent application if you click on the today screen plug in.

it sorta seems to have a mind of it’s own, at this point, if you click on the plug in, it sort of floats on top of the today screen, and is inconsistent as to how it renders on my Tilt. See the space on the today screen, that’s where it was residing before I tapped on it.

That’s what happens when I try to minimise it.

I’ll stop here, it’s half baked and needs work, but it’s worth a look, it seems to be rather erratic, and unstable. Give thanks for a freebie from Google, pray that they work on it a bit/lot more.

Go to http://m.google.com from your device to download the app. Even that’s a bit confusing, it is the first in the queue, and it’s labelled search, so have a look if you want to, but this needs some maturing!

been using it for a day or so now and it has been working great for me! I thought the point of having it moved automatically to top of screen is that it can show your search history?

Dave, you are right. I used the previous version for a while too. It is " completely renewed" though!
