Free For All: Doodle Kids for iPhone/iPod Touch

Doodle Kids may not be the most amazing app you will find in the iTunes App Store, but it is probably the one with the most compelling story.  Its developer, you see, is 9 year old Lim Ding Wen.  Let me say that again, a nine year old from Singapore developed this program, which is now the number 6 most downloaded app in the store…and rising.

IMG_0173 So, what is this app brought to you by 9 years old Lim Ding Wen?  It is a really creative fingerprinting app.  Just drag your finger across the screen to draw.  What is really cool though is that it does not just draw a line of color.  The line is actually composed of random colors and shapes, creating bursts of color across your canvas.

By default, the screen is black.  You can change it by simply tapping with two fingers at the same time.  Keep tapping to scroll through a myriad of different screen colors and gradients.  Shake your iPod a few times and the accelerometer will reset the screen, leaving it blank and black again.

I have to be honest and tell you I am really impressed with this one.  It is so simple and yet extremely well done.  My kids absolutely loved this when I showed it to them tonight.  They had a blast creating tapestries of color and then shaking the iPod to start over again.  And to think, this one was brought to us by a nine year old.  So, go ahead and take a chance on this one, and we’ll be waiting for the next big thing from a certain Lim Ding Wen.
