Quick Giveaway: gCalWall for iPhone / iPod touch

IMG_00013.jpg IMG_0001.jpg

Here’s something you can ONLY do if you own the shop…

Thankfully I do own the shop. Alright, well maybe not the whole shop, but part of the shop anyway. You may have (or may not have) noticed that I took the time develop an app for the iPhone. Took a lot of work to figure out and I plan on documenting some of it once I get done with the 4 billion other things I have to do (including a review of the HP Mini Mi). But the documentation is coming.

Want to know what else is coming? Version 1.1 of gCalWall – with improved speed, a re-worked UI and text alignment selection. So, to celebrate I’ve dropped the price until Sunday to $0.99! and I’ve decided to give away a few copies…

So – what do you have to do to win? Almost nothing – just send the following message out to your friends on Twitter:

Make sure to follow @justamonday for all kinds of mobile news and giveaways like the iPhone app gCalWall – http://is.gd/kLVI (iTunes)

Then come back here and leave your twitter username in the comments. The first FIVE people who do that will get a free promo code for gCalWall. Oh … and make sure you’re following @justamonday or we won’t be able to DM the codes to you! If you’re interested you can also follow me @brandonsteili to find out the latest on what I’m up to.

Sorry: Kindle news won’t Dwindle

Most of you would know, as would the world, just not tech aficionados that the new Kindle2 has just been released and is shipping as we speak. There’s been a lot of pacing and sitting by mail boxes as the tracking system seems to have not been able to cope with the mass distribution of this updated eReader from Amazon. Some are non plussed by the device

Some are well pleased to have it, Doug posted a childlike, joyous, Christmas morning with great presents sort of look at his new book, and today a somewhat frustrated at waiting, un-boxing over at Gear Diary from Judie, also gives us a quick look at the new Kindle.

Judie posts good impressions and a great gallery of images of the  new Kindle that you might want to take a look at.

Keep an eye out for a three pronged review of the new Kindle penned by Dan, Doug and Judie, as they share their thoughts with each other and you on this updated device!

Quicklook: gCalWall for iPhone and iPod Touch

IMG_0209

One of the things that has always bothered me about my iPod Touch is the wasted space on the lock screen.  I mean, here is a whole screen that displays every time you access you device, and there is nothing you can do with it.  If you ask me what I would like to put there, I would choose my calendar.  How cool would it be to glance at your lock screen and find a list of your next five appointments right there.

Well, lucky for me, here at JAMM we have our own in-house developer.  And by that, I mean Brandon is a valued member of our team, and also now develops iPhone apps.  His first application, gCalWall was just released at the iTunes App Store.  Let’s take a look.

StationBreak: Flight of the Conchords

conchords

They’ve got a show on HBO and they’re rocking an awesome tour right now that I cannot see because the tickets were all sold out, so I guess I’ll just have to settle for writing about how awesome I think the Flight of the Conchords are. Brett and Jemaine hail from that country near Australlier — you might’ve heard of it? Noo Zeelend?

The thing I really, really, really love about this group is the way they’re able to take so many different genres and topics and turn them into songs in such a loving and hilarious way. Their song “Foux du Fafa” doesn’t actually mean anything, but that doesn’t stop them from singing the whole song in French that’s clearly out of a phrase book. One of their newest singles, “Carol Brown”, explores the world of relationships past as Jermaine tries desperately to woo a new love interest while a choir of his ex-girlfriends sing about why they broke up with him.

Then there’s their love song parody “The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)”. Where else, but in a Conchords song, would you hear the lyrics “and when you’re on the street, depending on the street, I bet you are definitely in the top three…good looking girls on the street”.

The thing about their parodies is that all of them are fantastic pieces of music, too, and they don’t just rely on the clever lyrics and silly jokes to keep an audience. I bought their album on iTunes recently and am happy with just about every single song. If you’ve ever even remotely enjoyed a laugh or if you just like smiling, I think you’re going to have a great time with the Conchords.

It’s Business Time!
