Commodore International announced at CES that they are releasing a variety of new mobile products, including netbooks and mini-netbooks. For those of you who remember the Commodore 64, this is indeed the very same company. For those that are completely confused, please see this Wikipedia link. The C64 was the very first computer I ever used. I learned how to program in Logo and Basic during 3rd and 4th grade. At home, we had the even cooler C128, which could switch back and forth to C64 mode with the simple command ‘Go 64′. Plus, I had some great games: Oregon Trail, Indiana Jones, Baseball, Football, etc. I didn’t even think the company was still around, so I was surprised to see their press release. They are marketing mobile products to interact with what they call ‘CommodoreWorld’, which is a media extravaganza of movies, music, mobile games, and ringtones. The new products are netbook series J and F. Both netbooks have 10″ screens, with the F having unique high quality covers, and the J series focusing on business users with an extra superfast E-Sata USB port. The rest of the specs fit in with normal netbooks. Commodore will also be producing a M series mini-netbook for the One PC for Every Child initiative. Finally to wrap everything up, they plan on releasing a few MIDs and a GPS. WOW!!! From someone that we haven’t heard from in awhile, that is quite a line up of products.
I know for me, if the Commodore netbooks are in-line pricewise with HP, Lenovo, Wind, and Dell, that they will jump to the top of my want list. I can’t help the warm sentimental feeling I get when I think about my first computer, and all of fun and frustration I had with it. I’m sure nostaga is something Commodore is hoping for, and I know it has hooked me. Check out the full press release after the jump…

One of my favorite developers is Birdsoft. They make some fantastic mobile applications and games for a myriad of different platforms. In fact, their PIM, Extreme Agenda, has long been a staple on my Windows Mobile device. So, in the interest of sharing our favorite things, we are going to give three of you a program of your choice (any platform) from one of my favorite developers. So, let’s go ahead and pick some winners:
crloga, Gilson, Rick Bryant
Congratulation! Watch for an email from JAMM coming soon with all of the details to claim your prize. For the rest of you…well, let’s just say we are not finished yet. We are gearing up for the grand finale of this contest, and as Ed Sullivan might have said, we have some really big prizes. So, if you have not entered yet, hurry on over to our contest page and get your entry in before it is too late.
Almost a year ago, Doug reviewed Pocket Informant 8, and although there have been a couple of point updates, a little nudge from Lauren today, points at a big update from WebIS, on what is their so called “Flagship” application.
From what I’ve read in the WebIS news release, this update really focuses on the back end of the program, making it less of a memory hog, and speeding up transitions and searches within the program.
Obviously there’s a lot more than that,
- Major Improvements in 8.51 from 8.0
- New Tasks Filter Screen
- Touch mode now shows larger buttons and screens
- Email Integration with Contacts Summary
- Send vCard from Contacts
- 12 Key Search for Pocket PC – this is like T9 for search
- Birthday/Anniversary Filter in Agenda Customize View
- Contacts rewritten so that it now is very fast
- Improved Events view with groupings and more options
- Improved Journal view with groupings and better view
- Improved Touch mode
- Major improvements to Smartphone all over the place
- SmartPhone now supports Linking
- Better one-handed usage
- Default Number (SmartNum) now editable in the editor
- A number of Template improvements
You can view a full list of the changes to Pocket Informant HERE.
It’s one huge update.
I’ve got a list of very specific instructions for Knaak, joonsuan, and Frontiersci. Congratulations, you folks are today’s winners!
Each of you is going to want to go to the Sena website to pick out a case for your device. We’ve reviewed a few Sena cases here on JAMM and I’m a real fan of the quality – their leather really is something else! They’ve also just recently refreshed their line-up for the iPod Touch 2G, so you might want to check that section out if you own one.
Expect an e-mail soon with instructions for how to get things going!
And remember, you can always join the contest by clicking here.
