Mr Obama, Your Blackberry erhmm!

secteraedgeThere have been a plethora of posts and wide speculation as to whether the newly inaugurated President, would be able to keep his beloved BlackBerry. In fact the idea that he even embraced modern technology endeared him to me before I even thought about what it meant for Obama to win office. Hey, any geek is a good geek right?

Free For All: File Explorer Extension

file explorer extensions1 Here’s a great bit of software that adds a heap of added functionality to your WinMo file explorer. The native file explorer in windows mobile is pretty bland and featureless, paid applications like SPB Pocket Plus, added extras to the application, but they cost.

This free software, really adds some nice features that you might like to add to your own device.

It’s a really small cab and it works installed to a storage card, it adds some extra control to the way you view your files in file explorer, and some nice surprises, especially when dealing with image files.

Not quite the App Store, but a Nice Start

pc_capture1 This could have been a free for all post, but I wanted to applaud the ingenuity of the developers, for taking a business model, and applying it to freeware for Windows Mobile. Although still in beta the Gecko [Dot] org ethos seems to be, a place and an app that will let you forget about checking for updates, geckos app will do it for you.

Like I said it’s still in beta, but there are many of us that use freeware everyday, and hopefully this will make life a little easier.

The “they don’t want to call it an App store” application, is working towards the same over the air functionality, that the fruit company provides, check your apps and update when a new version is available.

Hit the link below and have a look around at the site, I think this is one to watch!

Listen To This: Loading and Syncing Media

image

Short of actually playing media, which we will cover in the next couple of articles, the most important task your media player will need to perform is syncing.  This is the actual feat of loading music, videos, and other media from your computer onto your media player.  There are two general systems by which this may be accomplished.   The iPod Nano and Zune both offer a proprietary program, which is the only way to load or sync media.  The Samsung, Sony, Creative Zen, and Sandisk Sansa are all what I call agnostic players.  This means you can use any program or simply drag and drop to transfer data.  We’ll take a  closer look at each of these methods.

Live at 1600? Take a Peek at the Peek…Absolutely Free!

Hey, do you live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?  Well, unless your last name is Obama, then chances are you do not.  But that is OK.  Peek is looking for anyone with a house number 1600.  Whether it is Pennsylvania Avenue, Maple Street, or anywhere else in the United States.  You all may recall that I reviewed the Peek email system a few weeks ago and found it to be an extremely useful tool.  So, if you have the house number 1600, then head on over to the Peek site and claim your brand new free Peek.

Of course, most of you probably don’t have a 1600 in your street address.  But don’t worry, all is not lost for you either.  In celebration of Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th President, the folks over at Peek have lowered the price of this great device to a mere $44.44.  Better hurry, though, these great deals will only last for 44 hours (they started inauguration morning so the clock is ticking.

Oh and whether you get your Peek for free or for $44.44 (or even if you paid full price), service is going to run you $19.95.
