Contest: Our Favorite Things Winners Day 6

We are just plowing through the prizes here at JAMM,and are nowhere near the end of the pile.  Just one bit of administrative news.  I have emailed all of the winners from the first five days.  So, if you have not received an email, then check your junk or spam filter and use the contact us form on the top of the screen and get in touch with us.

OK.  That is done, now let’s move on to the Day 6 winners.  Most of you are familiar with SplashData. They makes some fantastic apps for just about every platform.  Now, we considered giving you their enormous package, SplashWallet, but there were a few problems with that.  Maybe you own a few of these apps already.  Maybe the app you want is not included in this package.  So, why limit ourselves?  Here is the deal.  Three winners.  Each can create their own SplashWallet package.  Yup. that’s right.  Any three Splash Data programs…any platform.  You choose.

So.  Who will win this amazing prize?  Let’s take a look:

Certs

Rico

JCRiverRat

Congrats.  Watch for an email coming soon.  If you did not win, don’t worry, we will have plenty more prizes coming.  I am hoping to pull out some special prizes for our Palm users in honor of today’s Pre announcement.  So, tell your Palm Centro using friends to hurry up and get their entries in.  And if you have not entered yet…well, what the heck are you waiting for?  Just hit this link and leave a comment.

iShoot – Or It Is About Time

IMG_0045

Last week, Brandon posted a bit of a rant over on  Just Another iPhone Blog, in which he noted the ludicracy of an app called iFart Mobile remaining at the top of the iPhone app store Top 25.  Those of you who have been around for a while are probably familiar with Brandon’s sometimes over the top rants.  And this was one of the few times I have ever had to ask why he held back.

In truth, Brandon probably did not hold back, but there just are not enough words to describe just how ludicrous this situation is.  To start, not one, but several developers have now developed applications which do nothing but replicate farting noises through the speaker on your iPhone.  Not only that, but users are spending money – lots of it – on these apps, and then taking the time to come back and leave positive reviews.  The whole thing, in my opinion, is an affront to legitimate iPhone game and app developers.

Well, after several weeks of sitting pretty in the top spot of the App Store Top 25 list, iFart Mobile has finally been bumped down to number 2.  And I, for one, could not be happier.  In fact, true to a promise I made myself last week, I immediately purchased the game which knocked it off its perch: iShoot.

Now, iShoot may not add worlds of productivity to your iPhone, but it is a fantastic game.  Watch for a full review coming soon.  in the meantime: The King Is Dead…Long Live The King…

Review: SunnySoft Contacts 2.0

image PIM management on Windows Mobile devices, has always been lacking, spurning a large number of third party applications, to augment the native, mediocre, PIM management included on WinMo devices. If you’re lucky, [like me] when you’re a new windows mobile user, you’ll find a PIM Management application that meets your needs entirely and stick with it.

You have to move on though, and explore what’s out there for the platform. Now I have always favoured an all in one personal information manager, a program that does calendar, contacts, tasks from the one interface, but recently I had a look at SBSH Calendar Touch, and have become much more interested in what I’ll dub “PIM Pods”. Applications that take a specific portion of your personal info, and let you manage it, with some sort of integration of the rest of your PIM, while still focusing on their specific area.

What you really get are applications that are specifically tailored to your own needs when using your device. If your Windows mobile device is your communicator, you want every aspect of your contacts, MMS, SMS,Email,Calls covered in one place. This is what SunnySoft Contacts tries to deliver, but how does it fare?

Contest: Winners Day 5

OK, let’s get down to business.  I promised you all winners every day.  Which means some of you have been anxiously waiting by the email all day.  yikes!  No pressure on me.  So, let’s take a look at who will be today’s winners.  I think we’ll do three today:

Mr. M

Breley

Knaak

So, what do you win?  Well, this one is a bit of a contest within a contest.  Each of you wins a copy of the new release of Agendus from Iambic.  The second part is a bit trickier.  I have one copy each of Astraware’s Solitaire pack, Casino, and Boardgames.  So,here is what we will do.  The first one who responds to my email gets the first pick, and so on…

Congrats.  Watch for an email coming soon,.

Touched (or not) by TouchFlo 3D

[This review is being co-written by Doug, Lauren, and Sue.  Doug's comments will appear in normal text, Lauren's will appear in bold text, Sue's will appear in italicized text.  This is also being jointly posted on Just Another Mobile Monday and Gear Diary.]

pc_capture3Doug: One of the reasons I was so excited to review the HTC Touch Pro was the new interface HTC put together for it.  Their TouchFlo 3D interface was the first in a new generation of built-in graphical interfaces for Windows Mobile.  And boy did it look slick, with tabs running across the bottom of the screen, and instant access to everything on your device.  This was going to be great… or was it.

Lauren: I was also eager to see TouchFlo 3D in action. It’s probably the most-hyped non-Microsoft enhancement to Windows Mobile ever — I remember my jaw literally dropping the first time I saw the demonstration videos. TouchFlo 3D looked amazing, and I couldn’t wait to get my finger on it.

Doug: Almost immediately upon firing up the HTC Touch Pro, I started finding problems with the TouchFlo 3D interface.  Sure, it is slick, and takes full advantage of the VGA screen and graphics processors.  But slick graphics only get you so far before you need to answer the question, “how well does it work?”   And that is where the breakdown came for me.

Lauren: When I first started using TouchFlo 3D, I had a very different reaction than Doug’s doom-and-gloom. This thing wasn’t just gorgeous, it was revolutionary! I loved it. Well, after having my Touch Pro for over a month, TouchFlo 3D and I have settled into a post-honeymoon relationship. It leaves its socks on the bathroom floor and can’t cook worth a darn, but for all its faults I still like having it around.

Doug: Nice an analogy.  And I think i will stick with the bedroom as well.  I liken TouchFlo 3D to a new comforter on an old mattress.  When the bed is made, it looks great.  The new comforter makes the bed look so inviting, you just want to dive right in.  But when you get there, you find all of the same lumps and problems you have always had with that old mattress.

So… what did we really think?  Read on to find out.
