Microsoft Gives Us A New Twist On The Converged Device

Behind the scenes here at JAMM, we have spent a lot of time discussing convergence.  In other words, replacing the functions of several device with a single device.  According to our newest team member, Rita, Nokia has perfected the art of convergence.  But I have yet to get my hands on such a perfect device.

In the meantime, Microsoft has apparently applied for a patent, based upon the above device, which will converge your desktop computer and smartphone into one.  Now, I know what you are thinking…you have seen this before.  Celio Redfly…Palm Foleo…and frankly, you were not all that impressed.

Unlike those devices, the Microsoft “Smart System” would not only rely upon the phone for processing power and memory.  Instead, the “Smart System” dock comes complete with its own CPU, processor, and operating system.

This one is obviously in the very early stages, so it probably will not see the light of day for some time.  But I have to admit that the potential here is astounding.  Put one of these on everyone’s desktop, and your phone becomes your computer.  just pop it in and access all your data.  Pop it out when you are done, and carry your data to any other workstation.  Really, a pretty cool idea…if it ever comes to fruition.
