Ilium’s Kings Corner the Market

Not long ago, I had the opportunity to review Ilium’s first game for the iPhone, King’s Corners, a game which remains one of my absolute favorites.  when I reviewed it, this fantastic solitaire card game cost a mere $1.99.  Almost free, I thought.  Well, as the saying goes, almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.  In other words, the only thing better than almost free would be absolutely free.

Well, as long as I have known the folks over at Ilium, they have never been almost anything.  So, they must have been quite upset at the prospect of being…almost.  So, they have taken an extra step and made king’s Corners absolutely free.  Now, I am sure you are saying there must be a catch.  And there is a small one.  The free version has a small ad which is displayed while the game loads.  But the truth is, it typically takes about 8 seconds for the game to load, during which time you get a screen that says, “Loading”.  So, you can spend $1.99 to look at that loading screen, or you can download the game for free and stare at an ad for 8 seconds.  Either way, it is the same 8 seconds.

Either way, I have to applaud ilium for taking this step.  They have taken a fantastic game, and made it even better.  Nicely done!  For more, check out the Ilium Blog, and be sure to look at the new King’s Corners Free in the iTunes App Store.
