Free For All: Hammer Time

 IMG_0119

I just caught wind of this one from our friends over at Just Another iPhone Blog and had to give it a quick look.  Those of you who lived through the 1980s (and are proud of it) probably know where this is going.  Hot on the heels of the Death Cab for Cutie App that Thomas told you about yesterday, another favorite musical icon has come out with his own application in the hopes of reaching out to new fans and attracting some old loyalties as well.  Yes, that’s right, M.C. Hammer, who famously sang, “Can’t Touch This,” and “Too Legit To Quit” now has an App on the iPhone and iPod Touch.  And really, I think this one is well worth the download, if for no other reason than the pure nostalgia.

Palm Pre or iPhone…Let The Debate Begin

You knew the comparison was inevitable: Palm Pre vs. iPhone.  Well, over at MobileCrunch, they have a whole gallery of hands on Palm Pre pictures, including this doozy of the Palm Pre sitting next to an iPhone.  I don’t know about you, but I think we are in for a fight.  What do you think?  Will this be the iPhone Killer everyone seems to think?  Or will the Pre end up being Palm’s latest failure?  Leave a comment and let us know.  I will say this, it looks awfully smexy in these pictures.

The full gallery, along with a nice hands on first look, is here.

FireFox [Fennec] Mobile Alpha, Caught On Camera!

Well it seems that the Alpha of Fennec, Firefox’s new mobile browser has leaked, and not with a weak stream, but a fully fledged gusher. It was only a few days ago that we had news of a Version being released for the Touch Pro, and the alpha is already circulating. Though not stable, it runs well enough for Brandon over at PocketNow to do a three minute video tour of the browser. Although he doesn’t mention the memory consumption, we have to assume that this will be a RAM hog, and not for devices with less memory than the Touch Pro, although it may be slimmed down with time, hopefully.

What is really good here is what looks like some real parity with the desktop version, such as the inclusion of plug-ins and add-ons. I’m a fan of FireFox, and the add-ons that I use make it a powerful cloud computing tool. I could but a new PC tomorrow, install Firefox, and my favourite add-ons, and be up and running effectively online in about an hour. Having the same ability on a new mobile would be awesome. Check out the Video!

Station Break: The TenPenny Hammer Band

Capture1

I have to admit that I am a sucker for a) live bands and b) cover bands.  Which probably explains why I like TenPenny Hammer so much.  Of course, the fact that an old friend is the keyboardist probably does not hurt things either.  But really, if you are a fan of the 60’s, 70’s, ‘80s and even ‘90s music and live in the Northern Virginia/ Washington, DC area, they are really worth checking out.  They do not have any CD’s out (I keep heckling them to do so) but they have played just about every bar in the area.

If you are not in the Northern Virginia area, you can still check them out online, or on their MySpace page.  But watch out because they really will make you feel like dancing when that Brown Eyed Girl tells you to Take It Easy and you will feel Wonderful Tonight while they R-O-C-K In The USA!
