The Case of the Frozen Zune 30

Zune 30s everywhere are freezing. There are reports on quite a few sites, such as ZuneBoards and Zunerama. Zune 30s are freezing on the Zune intro screen with the loading bar at the bottom. At first hearing of this, I thought it was a hoax, but someone in my office has experienced the same phenomena. MS is aware of the problem, as there is a mention of it on the main Zune site via their support page.
Status:
Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!
Stay tuned for this continuing saga. Where’s the Scooby Gang when you need them?

Mine is afflicted / buggered at the moment. This is not impressive. I’ve been gradually getting more and more music for iTunes / the iPhone recently, but Zune has remained my primary music device. That may well change if MS doesn’t handle this well, and fast

Its a very strange problem. Its as if all the Zune30s had self-destruct codes, and today was the day. This is a big PR turning point for MS. If they handle it right, they are heroes, handle it badly, and they will lose more people.

I blame Apple and some renegade insider covert operations stuff.
Think about it. Microsoft wouldn’t do this to themselves. They are known for their quality (Cough Vista) and wouldn’t want to tarnish their good name (Zune Turd).
Seriously though… what timing. Its the holidays when most people would be off work (using their Zunes), the engineers at M$ are all likely on vacation delaying the fix even longer, and Macworld is coming up very soon so you know Apple is going to play jokes with this one.
I just can’t believe it. How could this happen? I mean its been a long standing rumour that devices are timebombed to die after a certain time… I wonder if someone screwed up the coding for the random date generator in the firmware?!
