The Palm Conundrum, or a Handy Saviour!
Ok you don’t have to berate me for the bad pun in the title (well you can if you want to) but if you could hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth, at the seeming committal of Palm devices to mobile phone hell behind the scenes here, you’d be on your knees looking to heaven.
Apparently, Heather found a little something that points to the road to salvation for Palm, a little clue just like the dead sea scrolls, left for interpretation, by whoever might stumble across it in the future.
Well the mystery is gone, a post at msmobiles dot com earlier today, details the info that will be included in the CES announcement from Palm.
Selected journalists participated in a conference call with Palm, during which the following information has been communicated by Palm:
- regarding Windows Mobile: Palm is committed long-term to Windows Mobile but their Windows Mobile phones will be in Treo line and focused on enterprise, not on consumers
- regarding Windows Mobile: new carrier in USA will be getting Windows Mobile powered Treo (probably meaning: Palm Treo Pro coming to AT&T Wireless)
- regarding new OS: it is Linux based, has working name “Nova” and it will be announced at CES 2009 in January and first phone(s) powered by it will be on the market in first half of 2009; most likely it will be focused on consumers
That’s it let’s resume normal viewing now, Palm is going the way of the Zune media player, hiding in obscurity and of course, lack of availability. Do you think a new Palm OS will be enough to make you give a palm device a go?
Palm confirms Nova release at CES 2009 and their commitment to Windows Mobile

Nice logo.
I know I would want a new device with the new Palm OS. Maybe Palm should partner with Zune to make a phone…and then make me the head of the division.
