The month of July is the month of the Orange County Fair here in Southern California. As well as all the usual fair shenanigans, rides, candy floss and huge stuffed animals, there are also concerts almost every night.
Bands the other half and I saw with our friends this season included The Stray Cats, Brad Paisley, Van Halen and Alan Jackson. But by far, in my opinion, one of the best bands was the lead in for Alan Jackson – The Zac Brown Band. The lead singer – Zac Brown – has some SERIOUS vocals and all around us people were nudging each other and asking “who is this band?” I’ll tell you more after the jump.
They’re just releasing their album “The Foundation”. It is available to pre-order on iTunes, but on November 18th it will be available both on iTunes and in stores everywhere. They were also selling the CDs at the concert. I picked up copies for the three of us that were there. The last track on the album - “Sic ‘em On A Chicken” is hilarious, and believe me you can see Zac and his little dog, Pete (whom he brought out on stage at the concert) feasting on chicken pot pie!
The haunting lyrics of Free are guaranteed to leave you with a tear in the corner of your eye. Well, it could be dust…but I don’t think anyone will believe you.
And Chicken Fried is just a feelgood, life is the BEST kind of song, especially with a cold beer on a Friday night!
Personally, I’m not a country music fan, but Brad Paisley sings a great song about fishing and there was a spare ticket for Alan Jackson - that’s a concert I’m glad I agreed to go to!
