Before I start, let me apologize, The Best Inventions of the Year?

23chromosomes_270x192 Time magazine has always been featured, as making the man, I can’t tell you the amount of times that Hollywood has included in a movie plot, making the cover of Time, ie ; Forrest Gump.

So as influential as Time magazine has been in promoting the social standing of many people over the years, they have actually broadened their realm of influence. So you know a social commentary magazine has to cover technology in some way in this day and age.

So what would you think would make this list, maybe the 3G iPhone, the T-Mobile G1 Android phone, or even the MSI Wind. You might be as surprised as me!

The gadget that made the top of the list for gadget of the year, …

Was the Peek. The peek is a focused device, primarily an email reader, is dubbed the best gadget of 2008.

peek I find this quite alarming, the peek itself made an appearance, when it was released and conveniently disappeared.  A device like this is more Zune than the Zune, and less Oprah than the Kindle. I suppose you would have to say it’s a great idea if this was 1988. The fact that the iPod touch came third in this list, makes me wonder why striking two stones together to create a spark to light a fire, isn’t on the list.

Anyway check it out and see what you think about Time’s suggestions.

About $100 and a $20/month service for web only email? THAT’S what classifies as a gadget of the year? Shoot, the Palm Centro can do that and more. Okay, maybe phone service costs extra, but aren’t cell phones pretty much ubiquitous now? I mean if you’re going to get a cell phone and want web email why in the world would you get a gadget for email and one for phone calls when you could do both???

I agree. I thought the Peek was a cool idea, and one I would like examine more closely. But gadget of the year? Yikes!
