I recently purchased the Navigon 7100 at a staples. They had the unit on sale for $199.00. I chose it over the other units because it provided the “traffic status” without a subscription, and no additional equipment required.

My experience with it on a recent trip from Louisville KY to Virgina Beach, VA was extremely pleasant. Turn by Turn was spot on. The points of interest were up to date for the most part, and there were only a couple of places that the speed limits were not correct.

Great things about the device:
Ability to select caution speeds (ie: 5 miles over in residential areas, 10 miles over on highways – you receive a verbal caution.
3 dimensional view of upcoming turns: Shows the exits and indicates which lane you should be in.
Pairs with any bluetooth enabled phone for hands free use – and can also dial any point of interest in it’s database (assuming it is up to date).

Another bonus about this (and probably other) device(s) is that you can run in map mode. IE: No set travel route. It will display the streets in the area as well as the points of interest in the area.

Granted, this is a biased comment, as I have no experience with the other major companies and my device is not the one talked about in the release, but I would say that you would be making a great purchase if you chose this device.
