Attn Microsoft: FIRE YOUR MARKETING PEOPLE. (again)
You’d think with Seinfeld in it – there’d have to be something funny about it. But really, this was just horrible. It wasn’t Zune advertising horrible, but damn it was close. There was no mention of Vista, no mention of Windows Mobile, no mention of Microsoft games, accessories, XBox 360 … Actually there was no mention of Microsoft products at all. It was utterly pointless and if I didn’t know better, I would really have to wonder if they were just trying to sell me shoes or get me to sign up for an AMEX.
So … watch the video above. Why? Because free advertising like this – from blogs like ours – is the only thing that will keep Microsoft afloat if their marketing department has anything to say about it.

I saw this commercial on TV during the game last night. I kept expecting one of them to somehow, I don’t know…use a freaking computer. See, the way I always understood the system is that commercials are to make people buy your products. So, to do that, you show people looking cool while USING your product. Complicated, I know.
But showing people buying shoes…I just don’t see how that will sell computers, even if it is Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates.

I think this may be Bill’s way of humouring his new partner who has been out of the limelight for a while, …

Yeah, but it still makes no sense. I mean, as a comedy sketch, it kinda works (maybe). But for selling computers?? I am even hunting for the hidden metaphors and whatnot in the dialogue. I’m sorry, but the way to sell computers is to show people using computers…not buying shoes.
