Apple begins to embody the dictatorship. Rejects uselessness for ME.
Alright – let’s be perfectly clear right out of the gate on this one. This app looks about as “of limited utility” as they come. Apple was right – this thing is useless to me. But so is THIS, THIS and THIS. Matter of fact – the Pull My Finger application is about 17 times more useful than the Rubberducky application. The duck one only makes duck sounds … at least Pull My Finger has multiple levels of auditory flatulence.
My point is this – It is NOT Apple’s job to determine of how limited utility an application is FOR ME. Apple’s job is to determine a very few things before it accepts an application into the store:
Beyond that – Apple should pretty much let developers DEVELOP. Let the consumers determine what they will and will not buy. Look if there’s anyone who’s been an advocate for the “less crap apps” movement its me. But at the same time, I know its not ME who makes the decisions for YOU. Just because I think something is about as dumb as humanely possible – it doesn’t mean that everyone feels that way.
So – let me close this out by saying this: APPLE STOP TRYING TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR ME. I’m a big boy now and I think I’m capable of making big boy decisions like wether or not I should download an application of “limited utility”. And for crying out loud – if you’re going to be a frickin dictatorship – at least be consistent.

I had a feeling you might run with that one.
I think the biggest problem here is not so much that Apple is deciding whether an app has value. It is their store. If they want to make that a criteria, then that is fine.
But, if they want value to be a criteria, then it must be consistantly applied across the board. Right now, there is absolutely no way for devs or consumers to know where the imaginary Apple line lies.
Apple either needs to provide crystal clear and consistantly applies guidelines, or they need to get the heck out of the way and let the market take care of itself.
All of that being said, I would have no interest in the fart application.
