Spb releases Spb Online for 3G
Posted by: Ragart on Sep 03 2008Spb’s latest offering comes in the form of an online-centric shell for WM touch-screen devices. Finally, a good reason to have a 3G smartphone!
Spb Online takes the layout of Mobile Shell and throws it out to there to blanket the interwebs in sweet, finger-friendly love. Radio, TV, RSS feeds, weather, and games are all available to you at the touch of a button (although you need wi-fi or 3G for radio/tv to work well). They’ve even thrown a bit of online shopping capability in there for good measure, so you can easily shop for Spb’s other products and download trials right from your device. You can do all of this already with other programs, but this is the first time I’ve seen it all packaged so beautifully.
It’s only available for mobile operators right now, but you can pick this package up later this year for $30 or get a new phone with Spb Online pre-installed (carrier dependant). The radio should be available most anywhere, but I’m not sure how mobile TV will work. Don’t you need a subscription for that kind of thing?
The key thing here will likely be how carriers pick this up. If more carriers start picking this program up, it looks like a pretty decent portal through which ringtones, themes, and programs can be sold. Sounds like an App[le] Store I’ve heard about.
