Palm Debuts Sexy Phone, Hell Freezes Over

Leaked pics and details about the Treo Pro have been popping up for the last few days, but just when my eyes were starting to black out from staring at all the fuzzy spy shots Palm makes it all official.

Basically, take the drool-worthy specs from the Treo 800w, which has to tie a porkchop around its neck to get dogs to play with it, and put them inside the sharpest-looking Palm phone ever, no contest. (Then break the hearts of all us Sprint users by making it GSM. C’est la vie.) That means WinMo 6.1, WiFi, GPS, hi-res touchscreen, decent camera, and enough program memory to actually let you run things. The whole package makes me wonder why Palm even bothered with the 800w.

Compared to the Centro, the Treo Pro is about 0.2″ longer, wider, and thinner. The buttons are arranged like on the Centro — flat across, not “smiley” — with Palm’s usual handy truckload of dedicated buttons, and the keyboard has a little more room to spread out. Palm isn’t known for making nice-looking phones, but they sure did it this time. Where has Palm been hiding these designers? And are they working on OS Nova?

The Treo Pro goes on sale in the fall, and the US price will be $549 unlocked.
