Selling laptops, one of the things that one can’t stress enough is protection. Of course, there is extended warranties which handle anything from parts and labor to full coverage accidental but the absolute bare minimum that any customer should walk out the door with (if they don’t have one) is a case! Cases come in a variety of shapes and sizes and styles and certainly some are more fashionable then others.

Today we’ll be talking about Proporta’s Crystal Case for the Eee PC 700 series, a case whose design functions exactly like a TechShell for Apple’s Macbook. It provides excellent protection from scratches and dust and scores high on the Geek-o-meter for style.

Upon receiving the case in the mail, I quickly ripped open the packaging to find that this case consists of two clear plastic pieces which had cutouts for fans and access to all ports. In this photo you can see the whole case you can also see that it has some nice rubber feet to keep it lifted up slightly to allow superb air flow.

As with most Proporta case products, there are no instructions that come in the box. Of course, who needs instructions when it simply involves snapping the two pieces to your Eee PC? Installation was simple, just snap it on - it’s done in about 10 seconds. So here’s the bottom of my Eee PC now with the Crystal Case.

And here’s the top:

Oooo can anyone say shiny? The Crystal Case makes the Eee PC more reflective on the outside - kind of a bling bling type of shine as seen in some anime flicks. Even though I have the Crystal Case I always put the Eee PC with the Crystal Case back into the Asus neoprene sleeve that the 4G non surf models come with for added protection during transport. After that, I put the neoprene sleeve into a Proporta Gadget Bag when I’m on the go for absolute maximum protection from drops (a total of 3 levels of protection). Given just using the Crystal Case, there is no protection for spills if the notebook was open. It would be nice to see a plastic spill guard which could be a separate product to add more protection to the Eee PC still, but of course, that would make it more bulky.

As-is, the Crystal Case does it’s job well, it keeps dust out and prevents scratching of the exterior surfaces of the Eee PC while allowing me to use all ports of my computer - such as my USB port for an A-Data SDHC reader which happens to match the color of my Eee PC. ^_^

With that said, I’m very happy with the Crystal Case and it is my choice of case for the Eee PC for everyday use when it’s not going away from home. When it is time to leave home, then enters the Proporta Eee PC Gadget Bag which we’ll talk about in great detail very soon in an upcoming review. Until next time!
