Review: SpeedScript 2.0.

The interminable quest for the perfect text input solution for WinMo Touch Screen devices goes on and on and on. I can hear the groans, Peter’s got another SIP to look at, but bare with me cause this is something different, that hasn’t been at the top of the SIP charts.

SpeedScript is not from a major mobile software provider, is probably new or vaguely remembered by most of the mobile community, and offers something different in input technology.

When Doug reviewed the first version of this keyboard, he had constructive thoughts about it, but now with a QWERTY keyboard it is really an option you might want to try.

It may not be as graphically slick as some SIPs and is not focused solely on finger friendly, but as far as I’m concerned it’s a real contender in the SIP wars!

One Mobile Post Deserves Another

Posted by: danc on Jul 30 2008 - 20 views

So this is a post created using the Wordpress-specific app for mobile blogging. It is a good example of a free app not only being almost as good as a paid app but kicking its butt.

Why?
Well let’s see…
Wordpress let’s you add tags
Wordpress let’s you see and select your site’s categories.
Wordpress’ text edit is much easier to use and especially to make corrections because the scrolling is much smoother.
And Wordpress is FREE!
Yes, it only does Wordpress but did I mention… It is FREE!

EDIT: At the same time though, as Brandon pointed out, BlogWriter has a built-in RSS reader which can big a big help. Still, the ease of use of the Wordpress iPhone app has me sold and when the iPhone gets a really good camera it will be even better.

Mobile Blogging iPhone-style

Posted by: danc on Jul 30 2008 - 26 views

GeoTagged, [N41.34854, E74.95761]

Doug, Brandon and I are all trying out BlogWriter tonight to get a taste of what mobile bloggging is like.

Setting up BlogWriter was quick once we got the right settings. Unfortunately the app didn’t set the account info automatically and
we had to hunt around for it. From there though it was easy.

The app uses images from the photo album and allows to easily add simple text. The auto save feature is nice too.

It will also geotag the image.

It is a bit pricey at $10 but it does work!

EDIT: You might notice the presence of a geotag at the top but no picture. I used the same picture from my iPhone for both this and the post above it. BlogWriter was not able to post the image but Wordpress Mobile was.

Experience Mobility!

Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 30 2008 - 15 views

 sshot-10

This morning, I received a troubling email from our friend, Jack Cook, the owner of Experience Mobility, Microsoft MVP, and all around good guy.  It seems his site was hacked recently, and despite his best efforts, Jack simply could not eradicate all of the problems and spam he had been encountering.  Jack says:

Sad but true, we are starting over after finding that I was infiltrated with a serious amount of hidden SPAM within my blog.  Evidently there was a vulnerability that was exploited at sometime and no matter what we did to remove it, it kept coming back.  I suppose I could have left it there but it was just the point of having it that bothered me.  Because it was not only in the blog but was also riddled through my database, it was decided that the best tact to take was to start fresh.

Don’t worry, folks.  While Jack may have lost a few posts and links, he has not lost his way.  And he is still here to help you experience mobility as well.  Just head on over to his new site, www.experiencemobility.net (note the .net instead of a .com) and get ready to experience some great mobile tips, tricks, and reviews.

Personally, I like to find the positive in a bad situation.  It may not be much, but I am really a big fan of the new theme Jack seems to have found.  Very cool!  So, head on over.  And don;t forget to change your bookmarks and RSS feed to point to the new and improved Experience Mobility.

Vito Releases Task2Gather Web Application. Windows Mobile and iPhone Apps to Follow Soon

Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 30 2008 - 51 views

image

Several weeks ago, I wrote about the technology preview of a new web based task manager, Task2Gather, from Vito Technology/iWindows Mobile.  Today, Vito has announced the official release of their new application, and it looks even better than what I saw in the technology preview.

Task2Gather is a Cloud based application, meaning that all of the information you input will be stored online, not on your computer.  Unlike most web-based task managers, Task2Gather is not laid out with a traditional list of tasks.  Instead, it utilizes a hierarchical, tree-based list of tasks.  In other words, you will organize your tasks by project or category, meaning similar tasks will be grouped together.

Task2 Gather was designed around several guiding principles, including: simplicity, high performance, sharing, flexibility and mobility. The result is a completely unique task manager, which can be accessed from any computer, anywhere in the world.

Just head over to www.task2gather.com to sign up for your free account and get started today, or you can read the full press release first.  Windows Mobile and iPhone users will be happy to know that mobile versions will be coming soon.  Watch for a full review in this space soon.
