iPhone Wallet Wars Begin
Posted by: weiganla on Jul 17 2008I can’t stand not having a digital wallet on my smartphone. You just never know when you’ll need account numbers or passwords. Developers know a good idea when they hear one, and there are probably half a dozen competing wallets for Windows Mobile. Now the App Store is open, they can duke it out on the iPhone.
While Ilium’s eWallet, which looks fantastic, is stuck in App Store purgatory (apparently the
encryption is so strong it’s a threat to national security. Seriously), other developers are stepping in. NormSoft, best known for Pocket Tunes, recently announced Mecrets. Aside from the awful name, it has a nifty touch lock and does the standard digital wallet things in what looks like a plain but functional interface.
Features
- Unique finger and thumb touch lock interface
- State of the art 256-bit AES encryption
- Launch saved URLs directly for easy login and password insertion without retyping
- Store personal notes with each item
- Generate random passwords for new accounts
- Organize items in logical groups for quick access
Considering the headaches the poor folks at Ilium are having to deal with, I wonder what other potentially great programs are getting the runaround from Apple. I have a feeling that maybe Jobs & Co. didn’t quite realize what they were getting themselves into with the App Store…
