Update: SpeedScript 2.0
When this press release came across my desk today, it took me back to the halcyon days when I had just gotten my Axim, and was just a reader here at JAMM. I remember trying out SpeedScript on the strength of a review Doug wrote way back in January 07. Boy I’ve tried a lot of SIPs since then, and had forgotten all about this one [I may be getting senile].
SpeedScript is an unusual approach to text input on a touch screen, not only for WinMo, there is a version for tablet PC’s as well.
SpeedScript is a patented, multi award-winning text input software specifically designed for touchscreen devices. SpeedScript’s blue window enables you to write 50 percent of all characters directly with a stroke of the pen. This ingenious feature is what makes SpeedScript so fast and efficient.
Have a look at the video after the break, it appears a little confusing at first but if you go back and read Doug’s review it’ll make a bit more sense.
What’s new in version 2.0 of SpeedScript?
- supports 32 languages including Russian and Hebrew
- text input with fingers with large keys
- landscape support
- improved animated and interactive tutorial/learning program for fast understanding and learning
- layouts for beginners and advanced users in one version (QWERTY and SMART keyboard layout)
- 351 combinations of keyboard layouts and shortcuts (e.g. English layout with Spanish shortcuts – like ñ, á, é etc.)
- many more features

SpeedScript 2.0 enables even faster text entry on touchscreen devices
The new, much improved version of the award-winning text input software enables even faster and more user-friendly text entry on mobile phones and PDAs that run Windows Mobile
Zurich, July 11, 2008 – SpeedScript AG, one of the world’s leading companies in text input on touchscreen devices, has released a new version of its multi award-winning software of the same time. The new SpeedScript 2.0 represents a further technological leap in the area of efficient, fast and user-friendly text input on Windows Mobile devices operated via a touchscreen.
The patented SpeedScript method for text input is based on the fact that in almost all languages (e.g. German, English, French or even Japanese), at least half of all characters in a sentence consist of vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and spaces on average. SpeedScript allows you to write these 5 vowels and spaces in an extremely efficient and direct way with just one stroke of the touchscreen. Using SpeedScript, you can enter the word “locate” for example with just three strokes of your pen. This is a saving of over 50% compared with the conventional Windows Mobile keyboard, which requires you to make 7 moves for the same word and search for the next key (6 times for “locate” and once for the following space).
The new SpeedScript 2.0 comprises lots of new features and substantial improvements compared with the previous version:
- Supports more than 30 languages: text input with all language-specific characters in the most important European languages (including Russian and Ukrainian) as well as in Hebrew
- QWERTY keyboard layout for ease of use
- SpeedScript’s own SMART keyboard layouts, optimised for the 7 most popular languages for even more efficient and faster text input
- Special SMART keyboard layout with large keys for text input with fingers
- Animated and interactive tutorial/learning program explaining all the key SpeedScript functions in just a few minutes
- Integrated program to enable SpeedScript to run automatically whenever you start your Windows Mobile device
The new SpeedScript 2.0 for Windows Mobile is available from August for € 29.95 and can be purchased directly from SpeedScript (www.speedscript.biz) or Handango (www.handango.com).
SpeedScript 2.0 for Windows CE and Windows XP/Vista (Tablet PCs) will be available at the end of Q3 2008.
