No 3G for me — this is working out nicely, thanks!
So the iPhone 3G is coming out tomorrow at Rogers. There’s going to be a complimentary breakfast or something like that (there should be, for the prices we’re paying! It’s probably something like $20 a bagel if you think of the contract price). People will go home with their brand, spanking new iPhones and their 2.0 firmware. But not me. I’m sticking with captain first generation, with mister metal back.
One thing I’d just like to say about the iPhone: it’s an incredible mobile device (oh, we haven’t heard that one before!). I’m very, very pleased with the battery life, the size, the shape, and the features. Unlike the other devices I’ve owned, I’ve found the amount of tweaking I do with the device has really gone down. I don’t need to surf forums like xda-developers to search for new ways to make my device faster, or use just a bit less power. I used to spend hours upon hours making up new themes with programs like Wisbar Advance, or trying to find a better file explorer for my Palm.
But I don’t do any of that stuff anymore, and I’m actually happy not to. I use this extra time (and yeah, I spent a lot of time surfing for tweaks/workarounds on WM) to just enjoy the device. It’s like I’m finally spending my time in the driver’s seat and on the road, instead of under the hood cranking away at something. I’m not even worried about the next upgrade.
So I guess I’m just saying that I’m quite satisfied with my purchase. It’s taken a while to get to a point like this. I’ve really loved the other devices up to this point, but this device has reached a real high point in terms of being practical, fun, and still reasonably affordable. That’s a pretty rare feeling when you’re a mobile tech hobbyist. So I hope you folks in the lineup have blankets — I’ll be warm in bed at home

LOL, Konstantin. This one was actually not me (though I do have a new iPod Touch on the way). That is Ragart 1st Gen iPhone. I am still rockin’ and rollin’ on my Mogul.
