Let the Countdown Begin…56 Days Till Diamonds Become a Man’s Best Friend

Not that anyone is counting or anything, but it looks like the HTC Diamond is coming to Sprint on September 2. I have to admit that I had been head over heels, 95% in love with this one, money in hand and ready to buy. Then I read Mitchell’s review of it over at Gear Diary. Yikes! All I can say is that I hope Sprint makes some improvements before I buy this one.
Anyway, for those of you who are not deterred by some mild criticism, mark your calendars. Rumor has it that September 2 is going to be the big day for the MP 6950 (which is a considerably less inventive name than Diamond, so I think we will keep calling it that.)
Looking at the proposed specs (which are maybe a step above idle speculation), it looks like the CDMA version will also sport a more adequate battery, at 1350 mAh (which will also make for a larger device). Other specs will likely include:
I don’t know about all of you, but I will be holding my breath.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting that! The anticipation of the US release of the Diamond has been building for weeks and now I feel kind of……..deflated.
I know, Sue. I was shattered after I read Mitchell’s review. Now I don’t know what to get to replace my Mogul.
I looked pretty hard at the Instinct, but it can’t do PIM syncing which I would need. So, I will probably end up with the Diamond. Maybe Sprint will fix it.
Doug
Good luck with that Doug. Why replace your Mogul? Its a good device… why not wait until HTC comes out with an upgrade for that. After reading Mitchell’s review, I don’t think I would even consider this POS.
Besides … you really want to rely on Sprint to fix anything?
Brandon,
Doug’s like a little kid……he sees something new and shiny and wants one
Actually, I have been having some problems with the Mogul lately. We’ll see if the new ROM fixes that (I am holding out for the official version). Otherwise, we’ll see. The actual upgrade for the Mogul is the Raphael. But I am really not loving the sliding keyboard design. The slides are just not well constructed.
Sue, PPC Techs should offer a service to repair these slides.
Doug
The Mogul doesn’t have anywhere near enough RAM - that’s been one of our most constant requests since the unit was released.
We tried, but the architecture doesn’t allow for an upgrade.
As for the slides…..I’ll look into that
I agree, Sue. The memory on the Mogul is pitiful. I think it is embarrasing how little memory goes into these devices, and how poorly it is utiized. So, we’ll see. Maybe I will take a look at Android if that ever comes to fruition.
