According to Bill Gates, voice is going to be the Next Big Thing in how we interact with our devices. Whether you think that’s a good thing or not, voice control is starting to show up in more and more places, and the latest is on BlackBerry.

Vlingo is a voice-driven interface that lets you control email, SMS, web searching, app launching, dialing, contact lookup, and reminders just by talking. And did I mention it’s free? Right now vlingo works with the Pearl, Curve, and 88xxs, but the developers have aggressive plans to add more models and other operating systems — they’re taking registrations for usability testing on the vlingo home page.

Vlingo uses actual voice recognition, not a list of commands. The question will be whether it can figure out speech in real life, and that’s what I’m testing right now. I’ll let you know in the review if this technology is as amazingly cool as it sounds!
