OK, so I was a slacker yesterday and did not select any winners  Sorry about that guys, I was out and about and did not get back to the computer until it was already too late to post.  But, I do want to make it up to all of you with some extra big prizes  Tonight’s winners will receive an Invisible Shield case of their choice for their mobile device AND (yes, I said and) the Ilium Software Smart Value Suite.

So, you want to know who won this great package?  Well, let’s take a look.  The three winners are:

Provost

Meatgel

Breley

Congratulations to the winners.  If you have not won yet, don’t forget to enter by leaving your comment at this post.  As a reminder, just head on over there and tell us what you think of the site.  We are continually tweaking things right now, and all comments are considered.  You can enter as many times as you like.  There are still plenty of chances to win!  Winners, watch for an email from me with further instructions.  And a special thanks Invisible Shield and Ilium for providing our prizes.

HP IQ504 Desktop goes all touchy feely.

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jun 29 2008 - 345 views

So … while this is definitely not what I would consider mobile tech, it is a sign of the times when your fingers are become more "mouse" than clicker. Honestly I think the sign of the times just might be getting a little bit to much like a giant billboard with tiny writing … USELESS.

I really have to wonder what the heck the point is of having a desktop computer … which sits on a freaking desk … that has a touch screen?! I mean if you’re sitting in a chair (typically a couple feet from the screen) what good does having a touch screen do? I can see a touch screen laptop making sense. I can see it for POS Systems at McDonalds. Heck I can see it on a digital picture frame. But on a desktop? And a fully integrated $1300 desktop at that?!

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me to be sitting at your desk, with mouse and keyboard within easy reach, and having to lean all the way forward to press on the screen and move a picture around or open an email … when you could without nearly as much body contortion just click the little mouse button and achieve the same effect. But maybe I’m just missing the point. Maybe there is a use for something like this… ? Somebody? Anybody? Bueller?

Anyway, if you can picture yourself touching, dragging and flicking your way through Windows Visturd … HP has a shiny new option for you in the IQ504 all-in-one touchscreen desktop. Just be careful when you’re using the amazing new "two finger scrolling" technology. I’d hate for you to two finger scroll your way into your coffee.

Toshiba Portege G810… Video

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jun 29 2008 - 200 views

When Doug posted about the new Portege G810, and Toshiba’s partnership with SPB, we could only imagine how that marriage of hardware and software would perform. Brandon over at PocketNow has managed to get his hands on the G810 and has put up a few posts about it, the video below, after the device description really showcases the SPB software integration. It looks really slick, although I don’t think the screen size lends itself to SPB full screen keyboard, but you can’t have everything… Can you?

Quick Look… PocketWeather 2.08

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jun 29 2008 - 259 views

When I reviewed PocketWeather 2.0 back in January, I was a little overwhelmed at the intricacy of the program, and actually the level at which it went into the weather.

Come to think of it most of us probably buy a program like this for the today screen plugin, to have relevant weather information at our fingertips on device startup. A reminder to bring your brolly or to rug up.

The program change log points to some stuff, but if your not very technical it wont mean much. If you are running a business as a rainmaker or weather diviner as a scam, PocketWeather would be invaluable.

Let’s have a look at some of the changes

Mobile Google: Even easier to downloodle!

Posted by: Ragart on Jun 29 2008 - 193 views

imageI know, I know, the headline stings. Let’s get to the news, though! Google is watching everything you do online and they’ve noticed that you’ve wanted an easier way to access their growing lineup of mobile apps. That’s why they’ve launched an even more streamlined version of google mobile to help you find the apps you want in one place. Now if only Windows Mobile could get Marketplace going so customers could get all their apps in one place..

(see that? That’s me ribbing Windows right there. Not too hard though. Just gently)

Newer Google Mobile — here.

The RazorBook400 - Windows CE Laptop

Posted by: tjchan on Jun 28 2008 - 370 views

Talking about UMPCs, yet another contender has entered the fray. This time it’s 3k’s new Razorbook400. But for $300 is this device able to do the things that a Windows XP notebook can do? Sporting a MIPS processor that runs at only 400Mhz with Windows CE, the upcoming Razorbook doesn’t sound too sharp (in my opinion from first glance) considering the rest of the specs are very similar to Asus’ Eee PC as it also has a 4Gb solid state drive and 512Mb of RAM. Software-wise, Windows CE does have software - but the number of software titles for the standard Windows platform will most certainly decimate anything that Windows CE has to offer. We’ll see if this takes off….

Also check out this photo from Laptop Mag showing the Eee PC side by side with the Razorbook (This one shown is a Linux variant):
