Now This Is Mobile Technology! part17
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jun 27 2008We all know that water and electricity don’t mix, [well I hope we do] but a post today caught my eye and reminded me of a mobile solution that is supposed to help you beat the weather. I don’t think waterproofing your device is a priority, but it seems that others do. This is not a recent post, I found it ages ago, and it offered all of the anime charm that I love. most of us would happily accept a shower proof cover for our laptops, or in fact any of our devices, well here’s one.

Even though the promotional photo’s look like this is safe, anyone notice the photochopped image on the left? I can’t see any water flowing there. Basically what we are looking at is a device in a sandwich bag. A Ziploc bag. So when something similair comes across your desk from a reputable supplier you do a double take.
So when we got a notification of a new product from Proporta today I was left scratching my head. This is supposedly a hi tech ziploc bag.
The BeachBuoy - 100% Waterproof Case
With summer upon us (or so we hope), Proporta have the perfect protective accessory designed to keep your mobile devices and valuables safe and dry. Whether you’re taking a trip to the beach, visiting the swimming pool, fishing, or enjoying a spot of sailing, this clever case sports an extremely effective seal system, making it 100% waterproof.
The BeachBuoy by Morfica is guaranteed waterproof up to five metres (16 feet) and has been fully tested and approved by the British Standards Institute (IP57 and IP58).
This waterproof wonder enables you to keep your valuables on you at all times whilst protecting them from sand, sea and sticky fingers. It also permits you to keep everything with you whilst you’re in the water. Room enough for your camera, iPod or MP3 player, mobile phone, keys, cash and credit cards.

I’m still seeing the same thing, a very expensive device in a plastic bag. Confidence in a product obviously will sell it, let me show you a reaction to this
Sorry … gotta pass on this one. I’m not sure I have the you know what’s to put my iPhone into the pool and see what happens.
If Proporta want to sell this they probably need to get Walt Mossberg in a pair of Speedos, to swim the Hudson river with his iPhone on his back and answer any calls he receives during the swim.
